    Is this a food intolerance?

Okay, my friend just started feeding the Nature's Variety Medallions to her little dog (a chihuahua/peke mix)...and after the dog eats them, she seems like she needs to throw up or is feeling slightly queasy.  She starts licking her lips the way dogs do when they're about to throw up, and also stands kind of funny like she might need to throw up, but she hasn't actually thrown up.  Unless she does a little bit in her mouth...?  In any case, there's no major vomiting, and there don't seem to be any other evident symptoms or problems either.  In fact, she acts pretty normal otherwise and is just as playful and active as she would be any other time, so she doesn't seem to be feeling too horrible.  Is this a food intolerance?  Do you think the medallions could simply be too rich for the dog?  I think my friend is using the venison kind, but I'm not positive, I'll have to ask her again.

I've been using the medallions on my dogs and love them, but maybe her dog just can't tolerate them...  Any opinions?  Thanks for the help!

Make very sure she isn't getting too much! It sounds a bit like overeating - getting the urps from an overfull tummy. I just put a huge bowl of chicken soup down for Cord, thinking I'd pick it up when he'd had about a fourth of it, and then I got distracted. When I came back, the soup was gone and Cord was standing over it with this thoughtful look on his face, licking his lips and hicupping a bit. I bet there was close to a gallon of soup in there! Thanks, maybe that's what it is, which would make for a very easy solution.  [:D]  I have no idea how much she's been giving, but I'll tell her to try less.

I had this same exact situation when I fed the medallions to my chihuahua.  It's because he ate them too fast and they almost came right back up.
I started adding enough water to make the consistency like canned food and mashing it up.  It worked!

Thanks!  Adding water is a good idea and something else she can try.

I just thought it might be a food intolerance because of the dog's seeming need to vomit, since I've read that vomiting can be a sign.  I couldn't think of what else it might be, but what you both said makes sense...and seems obvious now.  Her dog is probably just eating too much, too fast.
