I'm on a search on this Raw called The Honest House I don't know what you think of it? Anyways, you mention you cannot find Caviar or the Life's Abundance, you could either look it up locally on the web, or have your pet store order you a bag for free charge.

Lol, I've gotta give you credit for being persistent!! I don't think I need to have him allergy tested at this point, just avoiding those certain ingredients which is tough, but can be done.

The Natural Balance you listed is the same one- 22% protein and Life's Abundance has brewer's yeast. Canine Caviar is awesome, just not locally available. I had actually forgotten all about that food! They have a brand new one coming out also that's Venison and Split Pea (no grains). So I guess I can try to find a not terribly expensive way to get Canine Caviar []...

Pinnacle is really good too, but I have to drive 30 minutes each way to buy it. Sorry, I didn't mean to include you in my own personal hell of trying to find the perfect food. Save yourself while you have the chance! lol [

] I just checked into it and Canine Caviar is only available online for me and unfortunately the bags are only 2.2 pounds or 16 pounds. It would take Gingerbread too long to go through that much food and the shipping would be really expensive...

I don't know why Timberwolf Organics slipped my mind. [

] I fed it a few months ago with no problems. The protein levels are decent and none of the ingredients I'm avoiding. I still like Nature's Variety and Nature's Logic better, but oh well. [&o]

May I ask you? Why are you avioding Barley? Does he get a allergic reaction to it?

Sure, I'm avoiding barley because I think it's similar to wheat and also because it's a common allergen. Plus, it's one of the "bad" grains on Dogtor J's list. He's a veterinarian with a special interest in nutrition.

I'm surprised you're not continuing to feed Timberwolf Organics. It seems like the perfect line of food for your situation. I prefer foods without barley/gluten too- and that rules out a LOT of foods!
The Timberwolf Ocean Blue, Elk, and Bison formulas would all be perfect. The Canine caviar would also be worth paying shipping for. Petfooddirect.com often emails me coupons for up to 20% off my order. As someone else on this board mentioned before, it's like free shipping.

How about Solid Gold's Barking at the Moon (grain-free). I'm normally not too fond of Solid Gold's kibble (too grainy), but my friend's tzu is doing great on this food and loves the taste. He was eating TO's Dakota Bison, but that cannot always be found locally, so they made the switch.

I don't know if you have the freezer space or not, but I always freeze kibble. I haven't bought any in a really long time, but when I did, I'd go ahead and get the big bag, then divide it up into big Ziploc bags, and throw them all in the chest freezer. It saved money, and stayed fresh.

I would feed Eagle Pack, Duck, Lamb, or Fish and mix it with canned food or raw for added protien.

Just a suggestion.

Joey has ear problems and I have also found that large amounts of wheat in his diet cause ear infections. I had the same issue with OMH treats. I gave them to my real life friend, Silly Sally, also on this forum, and within a couple weeks Sally had ear infections.

I have not had ear problems since feeding Nature's Logic.

California Natural is a little too simple, I'd really like to feed a food like Nature's Variety that has fruits and veggies. Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken has 24% protein... I think I am going to feed that one though with canned food. It's apparently the closest to what I need in a food as far as ingredients, availability, etc.

Starsenchis- I do like Timberwolf Organics, I just wish it had more fruits and veggies instead of nuts and berries. lol I'll probably end up rotating with their Dakota Bison though for variety.

Jennie- I never thought about freezing dog food. I may try the 2.2 pound bag, see how he does on it and then order the food.

Tzumom- Barking at the Moon would be great, but I tried it before and it didn't work well for Gingerbread. His digestive system was a little upset and I think he couldn't handle the beef or possibly just the combination of ingredients or too much fat.

Jojo- That's really interesting that your dog and Silly Sally's had the same reaction to the OMH treats. They'd be awesome if it wasn't for the wheat! I'm tempted to try Nature's Logic, but it's not sold anywhere around here so we'd have to drive a ways to get it or order it. Then if it didn't work I'd be out the money or have a big hassle returning it. I read something interesting about brewer's yeast on the Nupro supplement site. It said that brewer's yeast is grown on grains like hops and wheat. I think it's the traces of it that sets off Gingerbread's allergies. [8|]

As far as fruits and veggies go, have you ever noticed how far down on the label they are? I noticed some of the fruits in the Eagle Pack Holistic are further down than salt! The amounts are minimal and are put there, I suspect, to look pretty on the label.

Adding Wysong's [linkhttp://www.wysong.net/page/WOTTPWS/PROD/SUP/WT011]Wild Things[/link] to any kibble would turn it into one with fruits and veggies. It's non-heat processed and would probably add a whole lot more fruits and veggies than a kibble with it in the ingredients panel would.

Now I have a (maybe dumb) question..

When you take the kibble out of the freezer, is it safe to store it at room temperature?? Or does the moisture in the kibble when frozen and thawed make it slightly wet?
