    ester-c for large-breed puppies

I've read a few suggestions that ester-c may help prevent some bone and joint problems in large-breed dogs.  I also see that ester-c contains a good amount of calcium - about 100mg per 500 mg of vitamin c.  Would this extra calcium be bad for a large-breed puppy?  I'm not entirely sold on the preventative effects of ester-c and if the extra calcium is not good, I would probably wait until my puppy is grown to start supplementing.  TIA

dogs manufacture vitamin C in their bodies. No one has ever shown that dogs benefit from supplementation with vitamin C. Growing large-breed puppies are known to have a lot of adverse reactions to supplementation with calcium. I wouldn't feed anything that had extra calcium to a growing puppy.

Linda Arndt, who is otherwise known as The Great Dane Lady and has raised and studied large breed dogs and nutrition says NO to vitamins and supplements to growing puppies. Here is the link. Notice though, in the last paragraph she says Probiotics, vitamin C, digestive and dietary enzymes are okay though.
