    raw bone & poop question!

Just wondering, why does my dog's poop come out very dry and hard after I have given him a raw bone? That's with all the fat trimmed and the marrow removed. It doesn't seem to be causing him any pain or damaging him in any way, but I was just wondering if it was normal.

    Calcium.

As you may have guessed it can also cause your dog to become constipated.

Is there anything I can give him that will soften up his poop a little? [:D]

With one of mine, I have to take the bone away after a certain point.Otherwise, he's old granite butt.

If you aren't worried about calories, you can start letting him have a little of the marrow/fat and increasing it slowly. Veggies cooked in olive oil seem to loosen things a little.

more meat. Raw feeders find they have to carefully calibrate bone to meat ratio in order to get good solid poops that aren't too solid. Too much bone in the diet, poop is too hard; too much meat in the diet, poop is too soft.
Try stuffing the marrow cavity with raw hamburger and see if that fixes the problem. Or just leave the marrow and fat on the bone. Fat is good for dogs.
