    Balancing a Homemade Diet

Although I've been feeding a homemade diet for awhile now, I would really like to make sure that my dogs' diets are truly balanced. Unfortunately for dogs, their nutritional requirements as dictated by AAFCO is much more difficult to apply to real life than, say, human nutritional guidelines. For example, I know the calcium requirement for girls is 1300 mg. That's pretty easy to measure at home. However, I looked at AAFCO's standards, and I see 0.6% (calcium - on a dry matter basis). I have no idea how to apply this percentage to real life. Can anybody help me translate these nutritional requirements? Mainly, I'm looking to see how to translate a % to a certain amount of mg/g.

For anybody who has any idea, please reply! This problem has been frustrating me beyond belief.

AAFCO is okay for kibble, and not much else. I use the NRC's guidelines. You can find older ones quite easily, but they have new ones for 2006, which are much less easy to find. I follow them. I'm PMing you.
