I felt that it was my duty to let other people know about this poison

I agree, it IS your duty and I personally thank you, Sandra and the rest of you unfortunate dog owners, for sharing your story and warning the rest of us!  Those babies lives and deaths will not be in vain!

I do not mind in the least that you give Hunter's site.  You can read about something and think "Oh, that is sad"  Or "Oh, my, that is to bad." and then it goes away from mind.  BUT when you see pictures, it tends to come home a little more.  It puts a face to the story.  Like i read all the Perry Mason Books before i ever had a chance to watch the show.  later, as I read books, I had faces for Perry, Della, Paul, etc.

I know of 4 other cases of reaction in this little town, and talked to the owners of 3.  One is a Standard Poodle and her owner goes to our little church and sites behind me.  After her 4th PH6 injection she started bleeding.  Yep, the old gastric  bleeding, one of the major reactions.  Amber is on meds the rest of her life.  Miss one tab and she starts bleeding.  One was a chihuahua that belongs to the receptionst that use to be with my insurnace agent.  This dog had an injection site reaction, but was also very sick for about a week and had to make several trips to the  vet.  The other is an aussie shepherd and I was first told about her by the assistant vet and then happened to run into the guy in Walmart when i was wearing my Proheart6  Killed Him Tee shirt (with a picture of Hunter on the front, the picture of a border collie mix that died in Wis the same day my hunter died here).  Anyway this guy pointed to my shirt and said "That stuff almost killed my dog."  But the time he told how she got sick after her first PH6 shot, they thought she had eaten something.  After the next one she almost died, I knew it was the same dog Dr. P had told me about.  She has an autoimmune disease (not the animia) and is on meds the rest of her life.  However, the guy had settled with Fort Dodge and signed a release so he couldn't go on the web and tell this story.  The 4th, a Dane went into shock before even leaving the hospital.  Shots brought it around.  No telling how many i don't know about.

My youngest son's wife's sister didn't realize until after Hunter died that her pittie had had reactions.  She was reading some of the story and got to thinking about Zeus  being sick 3 times, the last time was in the hospital.  The vet said it was something he had eaten.  Well, she got his records out and each time it was like 24 to 48 hours after his Proheart injection.  She was so sure it was the PH6 she would not give it to him again.

How right  you are that at first i felt so guilty, and then angry and i am still angry  And like you, I have to warn people.  It is like a group of 100 people going down a path and somewhere there is a rattlsnake waiting to strike one.  But which one?  You have to warn them all..

And since i now have learned so much about Rimadyl, Deramaxx and the other NSAIDs, I warn of them also.  I do not tell people never use them, becasue sometimes that is all that can or will help a dog.  But do leave it as a last resort.

There are a lot of beloved dogs at the bridge with Hunter and Candy, Tasha & Niki, Trouble, Vito, Bandit and Precious, Chief , Ike, Sam and all the others done in by ProHeart6.

I turned 42 last month and know about half of what I thought I did at 18.

LOL I'm 46 and feel the same way! Luckily I'm just smart enough to realize how clueless I can be sometimes. [sm=rofl.gif]

I'm new to the dog world- never owned a dog before last year. I did a lot of research before I adopted Murphy, but there's still a ton of stuff I don't know.....

This is the only dog forum I visit. [:)]
Lately things have been more heated. However, if any of you have ever been to a guinea pig website called guinea lynx- then you know I'm correct when I say that forum is really bad!! People get really ugly there. If you're easily offended and hurt, don't go there. [:o]

I love this forum- I've learned alot here. [:)]

Sandra, I think you should start a new thread about this somewhere in the health section with both proheart6 and ph6 in the subject line and a link to the adverse reactions site.  The reason I say that is because you know that huge thread that was on the old board about ph6....it was one of the first things that popped up when doing a google search on ph6.  In fact, that is how I "refound" idog over 3 years ago...was doing some research for a friend after her dog had a reaction to it.  The topic was also brought back to the front every time someone added a post.  I think it's great that this is being discussed again, especially if it might make it back onto the market.  And it could be that there are board members who's dogs might be having health problems right now, possibly due to a previous injection and they don't even realize it.  But a lot of people probably aren't seeing your posts about it if they aren't reading these nutrition threads.  Just a thought....

I am  really worried about it coming out, or even worse the 12 momnth used in australia.  Down there they report a reaction to the proper government agency who then turns it over to Fort dodge to investigate and rule on.   I have been in contact with on Australia who almost lost his dog and had to come to American boards and the FDA site to get informaion, he sued and won.  He sums it up like this "Dracula is in charge of the blood bank, Micheal Jackson is in charge of kindergarden, and Fort Dodge is in charge of themselves and find nothing wrong."  I do believe that if they 200% , without a doubt ProHeartSR12 was the cause of the reaction, death, they would not own up to it on their own.

I honestly do not believe the majority of people actually realize  that poison is in the body of their dog for 12 months (6 months for PH6) and I gotta be honest and say I never gave it a thought.  I was just told it was the best thing out and perfectly safe.  I didn't even think about it at all., just agreed to start my dogs on it one at a time and Hunter was the first.

Now i know, it stays in their body at leasst 6 months, maybe up to 8 months (according to Fort Dodge) and once in it can't be removed.    one person was told if their dog made it til the stuff was out of his system he would probaly be okay.  He did not make 6 months, he barely made it a week.

Yes, I do need to start a thread in health.

I agree about the new thread!  We HAVE to keep it up front!

I think there are a few reasons we lost some people. Some people got tired of the shenanigans prior to this board being switched over and because of the format of this board. I don't like this format because you have to click on millions of different forums and sub-forums. I loved the old format where everything was "out in the open". But because this board is like chocolate/heroin/sex/Rc cola, I keep coming back. [:D]

I loved the old format where everything was "out in the open".

Meilani, have you fiddled around with the different viewing formats?  The way that I've been viewing it, it is very similar to the old board.

I too had a hard time getting used to this new format.  I could not get it to work properly, so I just changed my user name.  Hey it took me 2 weeks just to find this thread.  But I am an old fart and don't adjust to change as well as I used to... Oh wait, I just realized I am the same age as Glenda, so I really am not old at all!  Sorry Glenda - j/k
I'm sure in a little while I will think this format is even better, but until then I'll struggle through it.
I cannot say I miss some of the mean-spirited debates that were ongoing earlier, although at times they did make me chuckle - kind of like watching a soap opera. I don't see them here as often, which really is a good thing.

I don't believe that anyone has said he is a BAD trainer, just that his methods are outdated and far too dominant.  Most of us prefer to use positive reinforcement over dominance training and feel that it is far more sucessful than forcing a dog to submit.

Brenda is no longer posting here but I believe she's on ODO.

Ohh okay i thought i missed something, Yea i agree with positive reinforcment training too, just easier for both person and dog. Thats how i train mine :)
But i dont totally disagree with disiplining a dog, I grab thier muzzles at times or a do a quick scruff...just comunnicate doggy style basicly, the dogs dont get upset either, they just stop what they are doing...

    • Gold Top Dog
and thanks so much for responding, i thought i missed out on something[8|]
    • Gold Top Dog
Ya know, I've NEVER seen dogs grab each others muzzles, and I've never seen them. not even momma, scruff anyone.  My dogs will grab scruff when they are playing, but I've never seen it used as a method of discipline.  Not saying that it doesn't happen, just saying I've not seen it with all the dogs I've had and/or fostered.

One of my returnees, the woman couldn't say enough bad about poor Tyler.  Of course the biggie was that he flat out refused to housetrain.  HUH??  He left here housetrained...I send a multipage BOOK of care instructions home with pups, but nope, he couldn't be housetrained.  Come to find out she wanted him to walk across a slick ceramic tile floor that he'd fallen on enough times to be afraid of  "think Bambi on ice" she laughed.  After he came back he had ONE accident...I asked him did you forget that we go outside to go potty? Put him out and this pup who refuses to housetrain is the MOST insistent of the bunch.  Too bad she didn't follow the care instructions and NOT rub his nose in mistakes and swat him with a rolled up newspaper....sigh.

Glenda, that dog is sooo lucky that he wound up being brought back to you.
