Since the format change...

I can see just a couple of problems with the new format, IMHO.  #1 - before everything was right out there in front of you as you scrolled down and you could just stop and *pop in* where & when you wanted - now you have to go into a particular section and actually look for a topic, so it's easier to let something slip by unnoticed. That's probably why things in health/nutrition threads go so long without a reply.  Unless you have a particular problem yourself, you don't think to stop there.  #2 - I think there are a lot of people who would like to be here but who can't figure out a way in to the new system.  It took me over a week (with a LOT of help from Jaime) and we lost Erin & cute little Russel because her system wasn't compatible with something here. I'm sure there are others in the same boat.

    Joyce,
You're right, many people are having issues still with logging in that they are not using their old usser name as their login and their e-mail as their password. Then they create a new account on the same e-mail and it really kicks them off the bus!
There are a few people who I have been e-mailing with to try and get them figured out but have problems with their computers it seems, either pop-up blockers or spyware I'm sure, as they are working from this end fine. Jan Ruggles being one of them.

If anyone knows of anyone who can't get online please have them e-mail me so we can find out what is going on.
The info I need is their user name and e-mail address so we can find them and see if there are more then one account listed for that e-mail

I just hate that I feel like I have to be so careful.  I have SO MANY questions that I know you all have answers to.

For mythreesons,,, please ask away!  Try to forgive us for some of this nonsense, because most of us are understanding. We all have opinions,,, but most of us learned from others so we are understanding.   We are basically trying to stop some of the ugliness that goes on on some of these post and get back to just discuss things and help eachother.     By the way, where in Ohio are you from? I am outside Cleveland!

I don't feel the need to defend it but will continue to mention it only as an example to others that you do what works.

I also do that here about Eagle, except I sometimes feel I am defending it.  But you know, I always mention either Eagle or the Great Dane Lady because I read so much of what she says and it does agree with most of what I read that others say also.  When I make a statement, I have a habit of saying where I got that information from just so that no one will say "why do you say that???"   But eventually I actually got a pm saying "you have to admit that you always mention Eagle or GDL" and that I should CHILL!    So I guess for some people, you can't mention what you feed or believe too often.

But Dyan, I have not seen you insinuate such things as if people dont' use your brand, their dogs can not be healthy, or that they don't really care about their dogs or that they are to cheap or lazy to drive 30 minutes to get YOUR brand (yes, that was posted). There is nothing wrong with mentioning or talking about what your dog eats.  that is not trying to force it down someones throat, that is merely saying what works best for your Bubby.  I have no problem with anyone talking about what they feed their dogs and I most certainly will not put them down for what they do or do not give their dogs.

I am a very strong believer that fresh caught baked fish is very good for my dogs.  My rheumatologist told me i should eat fish several times a week--good for my arthritis.  I don't eat fish.  But i figured it was good for me, it should be good for my dogs--and i always catch more than hubby (and son when home) could eat.  But because i believe fresh caught fish is about the best thing for your dog (within limits of course) I do not go on and on how if you don't go and catch , clean and bake fresh fish for you dogs............  You get the idea.

This is an interesting thread.  Whenever members become upset over the nature and integrity of messages being exchanged, I've always been impressed at how the situation has always been handled.  Somehow, someway, after dicussions and digressions, like what is ocurring right now, the ship almost always gets "righted".

I have been around for many years.  I just don't post alot. But I visit here almost everyday. This will aways be my resource for authentic experiences as it relates to my dogs.  No vet, book, study, or journal can ever communicate personal success/failures.  This is the real value in this forum.

I see folks on this board as a reflection in my "real" life.  I value specific opinions from those who have earned my respect and I try to tailor their advice according to my needs.

Sandra, you specifically taught me about Proheart.  I remember your posts that were very painful indeed.  In my eyes, your strength has always been as an advocate for dogs, and most specifically your Hunter.  Bless you for all your hard work.

I'll always be here, because no matter what, my dogs matter most!

Thank you so much.  There are many, many who have told their stories over and over because they didn't want to see another dog die needlessly.  For months I blamed myself for switching from Interceptor to ProHeart6, from something I knew worked to something that was suppose to be better.  But it wasn't my fault.  I listened to my vet who listened to the salesman who gave the speech the company told him to give.

I hope by telling of my precious Hunter's death I was able to save other dogs from AIHA, siezures, gastric problems, liver damage, other autoimmune disease.  And I hope if it, or the 12 month version come onto the market, people remember and avoid it.  I am posting a picture of my precious boy.

He is purely blonde and beautiful, with a kind face.  Just remember, his message lives on.....and so will yours.

    Oh, Sandra, he's so beautiful.
    • Gold Top Dog
Many. many beuatiful dogs died from that stuff. On [linkhttp://www.dogsadversereactions.com]www.dogsadversereactions.com[/link] there are pictures and the stories of some.  Breeds include  other goldens (including a seeing eye golden) , doxie, newfie, Neoplotian mastiff,   shi zu (I don't know the spelling) rotties, pitties, cocker, pug, border collie, German Shepherds,  yorkie, Springer, poodle, "skipper key", chihuahua, snauzzie,  Pom, sheltie, all kinds of mixes, etc.  They range from  1 to several of the different breeds. They ranged from just over 3 pounds to over 200 pounds.  They were from barley a year old to about 15 years old.  They were pure bred and mixes.  It made no difference.  They died of AIHA, liver damage, siezure and other nuro problems, gastric bleeding.  In many cases some had more than one of the listed reactions--my Hunter had liver damage and AIHA.

Some died within hours of shock, others in weeks of seizures, AIHA, some within months of liver damage or gastric trouble or other autoimmine diseases.  Some, like ozzy, a pittie that got his first PH6 just as he turned two.  he went from a puppy to an old man in no time.  He fought and fought, but 25 months later, he was gone.  I was so sad when Kristen e-mailed to say she had lost him.

I know this has gotten way off topic but it just breaks my heart knowing all these beautiful dogs died and I do so want to try to prevent others for following them to the bridge.  Many of us are still very much in contact via personal e-mail and the yahoo group caninedrugdangers--which Dyan belongs to and helps us spread the world about Proheart.  Many of you were here when Proheart was out and killing dogs and you read the stories from so many of us.  But many of you were not here.  Or at least I do not recognize some of the names.

ProHeart was pulled from the market Sept. 2, 2004 (Hunter died Oct. 16, 2003) and so far the FDA has not allowed it back on the market.  But i believe it is only a matter of time before it or the Australian version, ProheartSR12 is out here--SR12 is TRIPLE the dose of the 6 month and stays in their system a full year.  My dogs would get it over my dead body.

Oh, i am sorry i did get so off topic, but i do feel this is so very important.

Many of us had many, many, many posts on the old format---we who had lost or almost lost a dog, in some cases more than one.

Awwww. . .he was adorable.  I'm so sorry he and you also had to go thru that.  I don't know how these people can even think of putting it back out there.  I'll never use it that's for sure, your word is out as far as I'm concerned!

I think it's good for people to share their experiences on more than one instance. Who cares if some people have to read it over and over again... not everyone searches archives, especially not if they are having a crisis and post a question or plea for help. I was reading an old book I bought on eBay the other day, it mentioned some medicine to use for pain for Boss' bad elbow joint.. I remember reading something about it killing dog.. and I knew then that it was bad news. Had someone not shared that, I may have tried to find that stuff and unknowingly given it to Boss thinking I was helping him.

Dyan, I too will always mention where I read or heard something. My mom knows names of people on this board when I share things that certain people here have said to do or try, or I will always give mention to a book I read it in. I am in college right now and our Davenport University is big on watching for plagairism, we are drilled to always site our sources, I think that's where some of it comes from for me.

I love having this forum to ask questions on, learn from others and share laughs and even tears with. I was searching about behavior issues with pit bulls when I found this forum, convinced Boss was going to kill my cats... I liked the welcome and advice I got and was hooked instantly. I've gotten great help and advice along the way, and all the help I have needed with bringing Gracie home too.

If it weren't for this forum I'd probably have an overweight dog with pimples all over his butt still because I never in my life would have thought about food allergies or insensitivities and paid more attention to proper nutrition. Not only do I learn something new every day, I am inspired to WANT to learn more and be the best dog mom I can be.

I have to say that I love the new format. I haven't been her much lately because Real Life's been in the way - moving, rescues, business trips, and a herding clinic out of town. But I did want to say I haven't been scared off (though I'm not an "old timer" that anyone would miss particularly) nothing short of a descent to actual vulgarity would run me off as long as there's substantive discussion to glean somewhere. [:)]

Sorry to go off topic, but since it's already moving there.
Here's my girl's page. I went through the same thing Sandra did, beating myself up for not knowing, and for trusting my vet (who had a very clever ploy of marketing, they just wouldn't leave us alone- turns out they get special perks just like dog food for selling the Proheart shot) My vet ended up being the ones on the defense- backing up Ft. Dodge and saying that only "1 case" ever happened at their clinic. Bull poopey! Two weeks after vaccines she was on the floor seizing and paralyzed from the neck down.

Sandra, I hope you don't mind me sharing Hunter's page too- if not let me know and I can edit it.

Why have so many babies have died from this? I couldn't go and share my story at the Ft. Dodge meeting, but it really does scare me if it goes back on the market. I can't speak for Sandra, but I know for me, first I was overwhelmed by greif, but then I was overcome by anger. I felt that it was my duty to let other people know about this poison. [sm=soap%20box.gif] That smiley is me! (hehe)
