    Shrimp

Does anyone know for sure whether cooked shrimp is OK to feed to dogs? I got some salad shrimp over the holidays and ended up not using it. It's not bad, it's just shrimp isn't very yummy for salads after it's been sitting for a few days.

I gave my guys some. It is fresh and not old.  They wont eat more than a couple pieces, and then want to play with the smelly stuff.   If it is old and very smelly I would just toss it.  It will begin to go rancid and you don't want your dog to get sick from it.  (if you cant eat it, the dog should not either I think)

It's not old, it's just past the stage where you'd want it hanging out with lettuce and mayo. [;)] It smells good but I know from past experience that it's probably tough.

Bugsy the canine garbage disposal LOVES shrimp
Never given him some that was on its last legs (DH doesn't allow anything with shrimp to last too long [:D])
But Bugs loved it after taking it to his testing facility (an area in our sunroom that all new things go to, to be thoroughly examined prior to eating) he cam back licking his ample chops hopoing for another steamed beauty

Some dogs can stomach a lot!  My pups have stronger stomachs than they used to, but I still like to monitor what they eat if I can keep it that way.

Wonder if a dog can have a seafood allergy?  Never heard of it, but just asking.

I haven't ever heard anything that says shrimp is bad for dogs....I just wouldn't feed it if it was too past it's prime [:D]

bugsy has pretty serious allergies to eggs, chicken and turkey - so I was ready if anything happened with the shrimp but it was fine.
Of course  he would love to have an all seafood diet - he gets lots of fish and LOVES it

The recurring theme re food and Bugs is LOVE

Emma and Teenie get shrimp, but only when we're out to eat. I don't feed bottomfeeders on a regular basis, because... they're gross, LOL. There is a local resturant right up the road from the beach that lets us sit outside, though, and they have a kids grilled shrimp meal. It's just about right for a nice, big lunch for a little dog. Five shrimp, and a handful of fruit. They LOVE it.

I tried to get Ace to eat some leftover shrimp once, but he would not touch them.  He wasn't even willing to carry one a short distance away and investigate it (his usual MO with treats of dubious value).  He just sniffed them and totally rejected the whole idea.  He loves fish, but I guess he draws the line at invertebrates!

That is something I haven't try on Pearly.  Maybe I should throw in 1-2 shrimps on her next meal.  Raw or cooked? [>:]

Since this got "bumped" I thought I'd ive an update. There was about a pound, fully cooked - I tasted one myself, still good, it just picked up the smell from the fridge (which needed cleaning [8D] ).

I divided it up and gave it to Ben and the puppies and Cord, who all get any extra protein items whenever they are available. No takers - and those puppies are Hoovers!

Okay, I gave it to Maggie and the resscues. Even Maggie turned her nose up at it! Maggie eats anything she can pin down fast enough, literally!

So I put it out for the livestock guardians - they are always game for a little snack. Ix-nay.

Finally we took it down to the pond and scattered it on the water. I have no idea whether the fish there took advantage of our bounty, but it was out of our lives.
