Whooo, I finally figured it out!

I had been having trouble with Ogre's diet since I got him, as per this thread: [linkhttp://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=215574&mpage=1&key=𴫋]http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=215574&mpage=1&key=𴫋[/link]

I had been messing with his diet constantly and no matter what I did, he either had a crappy coat and skin trouble, or a nice coat and constant diarrhea, and I never could seem to figure out the right balance for him. I finally got it- 2 meals of Blue Buffalo Fish and Potato, and 1 raw meal a day. Plus Missing Link supplement, but half the reccomended dose. I think what was getting to him was the extreme variety...my other dogs did well on it but he just couldn't handle it. He was obviously not getting everything he needed from the kibble, but EVERYTHING else he was getting was just too much. So I switched the type of Blue Buffalo he was getting (Lamb and Rice to Fish and Potato,) and put him only on that for a week. As usual, his poops firmed up, but he started looking crappy in a matter of days. So I slooooowly added some meat to his diet, and a smaaaall amount of Missing Link, and while he got squirty of a day or two, it's cleared up soon after.

Then, sometime last week I came home to a beautiful dog. A beautiful dog who went outside and pooped a totally normal, solid poop. I don't think I've been so happy in a long time. [:D]

I'm still adding different raw meats to his diet, and I think once he's used to all of the components of a raw diet, I'll start sloooowly phasing out the kibble. I think it was probably just the extreme variety I was throwing at him...my other dogs can handle it, and he can't. Axl, while he can't eat raw, took to the variety of the diet I was giving him right away and benefited from it. Pepito looked stunning on raw after about 4 days of detoxing. I just had never experienced a dog this sensitive to food changes and I was probably just expecting him to get used to too much, too fast.

Anyway, I just wanted to share. This is my first week with Ogre as a pretty dog WITHOUT an explosive bottom. Hooray for no more poop puddles in the hallways! [sm=dance.gif]

Make sure you check out your food for bugs.  I bought some buffalo blue from pet smart for Madi.  I mixed it 50/50 with Nutro (she has never had a problem with nutro before) shorty after this Madi was not really eating then I noticed why.  There were little brown bugs in her food.  They looked like small cockroaches.  This is the first time is 8 years I have ever found bugs in her food.

I ask have our senior kitty on Buffalo blue and I found bugs in one of her bags of food.  She is now on Nutro again.

I know it sounds like there are bugs in our house but I found the bugs in the cat food two weeks after I threw away the dog food and I found the bugs when I first opened the bag.

I have done so much research on food and I have read the good things about Buffalo blue but Bugs are not nutritional enough for me to buy it anymore.

Eek! That really sucks that you found buggies in your bags of BB. [:'(]  I would have taken them back and complained. I've been buying BB for a few months now and luckily have never had any bugs in the bags- though I did get one bag of Fish and Potato that smelled rancid, but I returned it and the next bag was fine.

I absolutely love Blue Buffalo. The fact that they use all human grade ingredients, and no corn, wheat, or soy means alot to me. It's the only food readily available to me that I'm just completely happy with the ingredients all around. (Though, I do wish their non chicken formulas didn't contain chicken fat, since my bulldog is mildly sensitive to cooked chicken and has a serious problem with raw chicken.)

My cat is also on BB cat food, and she's done much better on it than her previous food (she was my dad's cat, and he fed her Friskies.)

So, overall I'm pretty happy with BB. But I definitely will keep an eye out for bugs in the bags, thanks for the heads up. [:)]

Sounds like you found the winning combo!  Wonderful news (except the bugs [&o])!
