    Need good nutrition links!

I recently updated my browser and lost ALL of my saved bookmarks, including all the great links members have contributed here on:  reading dog food labels, comparing different dog food brands, and other such info on nutrition and making an educated choice on dog food.

I am recently in a healthy argument (soon to turn ugly it seems) by someone who is insisting that science diet is the best dog food out there b/c vets prescribe it.  I don't agree, considering I do know that corn is their #1 ingrediet....but it would help tremendously if I could have some links to direct her towards.  I'm trying to google search, but wading through all the crappy info is not so much fun =(  So I was wondering if you guys could help me educate a fellow dog owner.  This debate all started when another friend of ours decided to switch from Purina to Canidae because she saw it had a better list of ingredients.

I feel an argument coming on.  LOL!
Sorry you lost your links...I just did the same thing and lost a lot of important things I was saving. Thank goodness MY FAVORITES were filled with good info.

This topic has been non-argumentative for quite some time. Eerie...

Who's up for some Science Diet?[;)]

Not really wanting to debate, just had to be cheeky.[sm=joker.gif]

LOL no science diet for me or any of my future puppers thank you very much.  Well I've sent the email to her with the links.  Again many thanks.

I've now backed up my bookmarks in case this ever happens again.  It was bad enough losing all my doggy stuff links, but I also lost some important bookmarks for sites for my research paper.  [:o]

I think the best information is found on pubmed, you can read the medical literature for any question for both people and pets :)

    I've always liked www.woodhavenlabs.com/dogfoods.html

    I like that one, too.

It's not one of the favored links here, though, because they will tell you to use what works, rather than what other people think you should be feeding, even if what works is considered "mid-grade."

Ron - (not trying to be argumentative here) but what is the issue with feeding what works vs. feeding what's on the Whole Dog Journal's top 10 list (as one example)?

I fed my dogs Kirkland Lamb & Rice from CostCo for several years and they were in incredible shape, lustrous coat, barely shed, great poops, etc.  I fed it until they changed the formula and I noticed some problems in the dogs.  Much like Laura from Kelrobin, I've tried higher-end/better "quality" foods like Wellness and my dogs didn't do well on them.  On paper, the food looks fantastic, but it just didn't work for my dog.  I personally think she has a good point!  :)
