Eukanuba VS Ivet for a puppy?

I took our new little puppy (10 weeks old) to the vet today for a check up.  She has been eating Eukanuba small breed puppy food since that was what the breeder was feeding her. The vet said Eukanuba was a very good food but he suggested I think of switching to the brand I VET.  He gave me a long spiel about how it has no preservatives or additives and why I should use it, but I wanted to come home and do a little research first. I havent found anything BAD about in online but I cant find much info other than advertising which is obviously just trying to sell me the food.

I just want to do what's best for my new little girl and I am feeling so overwhelmed with some of these decisions.

    Thanks for your help!

I would check out [linkhttp://www.dogfoodproject.com]www.dogfoodproject.com[/link] to learn how to read and interpret dog food labels.....you might find that Eukanuba isn't very good.

    Other good foods to consider:

    Innova puppy (www.naturapet.com)
    California Natural puppy (www.naturapet.com)
    Natural Balance (www.naturalbalanceinc.com)
    Canidae All Life Stages (www.canidae.com)
    Royal Canin mini varieties (www.royalcanin.us)
    Sensible Choice puppy (www.sensiblechoice.com)
    Solid Gold Wee Bit (www.solidgoldhealth.com)
    Artemis Small Breed puppy
    Castor & Pollux puppy

This is the ingredient list of IVET small breed puppy:
Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Oatmeal, Barley, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols a source of Vitamin E), Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Flaxseed, Natural Flavor, Herring Fish Meal, Dried Egg Product, Dried Brewers Yeast, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Yucca Schidigera, Vitamin E Supplement

    Crude Protein 32% (min)
    Crude Fat 22% (min)
    Crude Fiber 4% (max)
    Moisture 10% (max)
    Calcium 1.2% (min)
    Phosphorus 0.9% (min)
*Omega -6 Fatty Acids *3.8% (min)
    *Omega-3 Fatty Acids *0.9% (min)

This looks pretty good as well.....definatley  better than Eukanuba

Thank you so much! that website has some great info!!!

In the past I have rescued dogs (both of which were older and had many health problems due to improper nutrition and care from their previous owners).  This is my first experience with a brand new fresh from the mama puppy! We've only had her home with us since Friday and we love her soooo very much! I want to do everything I can to help her live the longest healthiest life possible.

The vet said he would give me my first bag of the food free but I told him I wanted to come home to research it first. [;)]

    Thanks again!!!

I would choose Ivet over Eukanuba - you have a smart vet.  Most vets recommend either Science Diet, Euk, Iams, Purina.  None of which are as good as I vet and some other healthy foods.

I would definitely choose Ivet hands down over Eukanuba. That's a rare find you have with your vet!
