Does anyone have any experience with Solid Gold's Hundchen Flocken Puppy?  Its lamb based and seems to have a decent list of ingredients . . . . • outdoorschik Posted : 12/13/2006 2:55:02 PM I have two lab mixes, one 6 years old and another 1.5 I used to feed Nutro, but wanted to improve what I was feeding. I've used the Solid Gold Puppy Formula and now I use the Adult Lamb and Rice... They make a large breed formula for large breed pups and also one for adults with Bison and Salmon which I like as well but the red meat aggravates my older dog's arthritis. I've had success with this and the dogs look great, shiny coats and relatively firm stools. I do supplement with Salmon oil, a host of joint sups and some RMB's every other day. When they didn't get the salmon oil, my younger dog did have some skin flaking, but he's got a bunch of immune issues and was never the healthiest dog so I hesitate to blame that on the food since my older dog looks awesome without the fish oil. • Boxermom4 Posted : 12/13/2006 3:01:02 PM My guys didn't do great on Solid Gold, they had dry itchy skin , their coats weren't great and after a year or so I figured I could get better quality for probably less money, so I switched em. • Margaret Tyler Posted : 12/13/2006 8:01:13 PM I would use  Solid Gold's Wolf Cub formula.  It's specifically meant for large breeds.  From what I've heard and experienced, Solid Gold's Lamb formulas are not very tasty.  I've use Solid Gold's Wee Bit formula, which is bison and salmon based like the Wolf Cub and King formulas with success. I mixed it with her old food to transition over and she would pick out every single piece of the Solid Gold, throw it on the floor, and eat her regular food. However, we had major gas and soft gross poop on the Wolfcub and Wolfking.  We had dogs begging to try the sample of Barking at the Moon I picked up. • jones Posted : 12/14/2006 9:18:18 PM I fed Russell SG Millenium (beef & barley formula) for about 6 mo. I thought it was good... the only issue to be aware of is that it has less fat than many other kibbles, and that's why you'll sometimes see dry skin or coats. • Luvntzus Posted : 12/14/2006 9:22:23 PM I tried Solid Gold Hunchen Flocken for Gingerbread very briefly. The kibbles were large for a puppy food and the food smelled very "grainy". He didn't like it and the kibbles were too big anyway so I either returned the food or gave it to the shelter, can't remember which. [] I've thought about trying their Just a Wee Bit several times, but I always find another food I like better.
