• the_gopher Posted : 12/12/2006 3:22:22 PM Trachea is a tube that connects the mouth and nose to the lungs.  A tracheotomy would be a surgical procedure to elongate this tube.  For example my Mom's shih tzu has issues with a collapsing trachea, meaning she'll start wheezing until that tube relaxes (not a good description but I'm lazy at the moment).  Thankfully she is not so bad that it requires surgery. Your lab could probably finish faster. You said you're worried he'll swallow it... did you mean choke? I'm almost certain they're meant to be eaten, not just chewed.
