going to be TO for us

I've been looking for a food without eggs, good quality, decent protein levels for Bugsy for ages.
We have added another twist because after doing some experimenting it seems that his allergies include cooked chicken and cooked turkey so I want to go totally chicken free.  That eliminates the Blue Buffalo Lge breed he has been on with NB Venison and the NB foods are lower calorie than I like as I don't want to feed him huge amounts of kibble.
We got the sample pack of TO -loved them all (Bar the real high protein formula which has egg) The chicken formula is also out in our new plan however I was worried about price.
But they now do free shipping and also if you order $100 you get 10% off  - that's not a tough target as I would order (2) 33lb bags
so using the 10% discount price, working on 99 cups per 33lb bag (dog food project says 5.3oz/cp) and calories (all TO is over 529/cp) needed TO is all slightly cheaper than the Blue Buffalo but WAY cheaper than the NB because of the lower calorie content in the NB.

So yippee we'll be ordering TO when our current supply wanes!!  We'll have the fish and either the bison or elk

The small size of the kibble is a little problem but he has chewed the ones we've given him.  He gets added meat or fish so I don't need to get all his calories from the kibble.

One question I have is have any dogs 'felt' hungry because they are getting less to fill their belly
    thanks

I just started TWO Ocean Blue a couple of days ago.  I agree, the size is a little bit of a problem.  Why do they make them so small?  But Jake seems to like it.  Jake is also allergic to chicken and turkey and a whole bunch of other things, so he can only have the ocean blue.

Congrats on your TO decision...you should come join us on the "My TWO finnally arrived thread" and compare formulas and poop and all that good stuff![;)]

I LOVE the 10% off  on the website deal.  I place 1 order a month for two 33 pound bags of bison, 1 order of canned pheasant and 1 bottle of salmon oil.  This discount brings my bags down to $49 a bag which is over $10 a bag cheaper than anywhere else I can go locally.[:D

I have never had any problems with my pups feeling hungry...although they would argue that they feel hungry all the time no matter what food they are on![;)

Woo hoo! Another TWO slave ;)

Where did you find K/cals cup for this food? I have been looking everywhere but can't seem to find any information.

And if it is 529 a cup that would explain why Prince seems to be gaining a little weight since the switch. I thought k/cals were 200 calories lower per cup than that so have been feeding an extra cup a day! [8|] whoops!

How much does Prince weigh adn how much have you been feeding? I have been able to keep JJ's weight VERY consistent on TWO and been trying to put a couple extra pounds on Prudence.

Hi the kcal/cup are on this website - they calculated it from the kcal/kg
The bison, fish, and elk formula are 550-551/cup, lamb is 587/cp and hte black forest is 529/cp
Because of his allergies those are the only ones i looked at

Bugsy is always hungry too that is a minor concern -in fact he might say we starve him and that is why he eats grass, sticks, paper, kongs, etc. [:D]
we're looking forward to moving to TO but we have some food to get through first [:(]

Prince weighs 80lbs and is at a perfect weight. I have been feeding about 3-3.5 cups a day, compared to 1.5-2 cups per day of EVO. BUT if TWO has about the same calories per cup as EVO, I am way overfeeding!

I fed according to those kcals and found that my dogs didn't maintain well. We ended up at about double the recommended feeding amount. Someone mentioned the other day that they weighed a cup of TO and it didn't weight as much as was stated on the bag - which dropped it down to around 350 kcal/cup. I thought that explained our experience, but maybe my dogs are just weird. We haven't had that trouble on other foods.

JJ is 80 pounds and this is just about the perfect weight for him. I feed him just slightly over 3 cups of bison a day and then he gets maybe 1/3 a cup of his “mix- in#%92s ” each day (usually crockpotted beef, chicken or lamb with apples, canned TWO, canned salmon or sardines).

;Prudence was about 74 pounds and needed to put on a couple pounds (IMO), so I have been feeding her about an extra 1/3- ½ bison a day and she has put on a pound or so already in the past 2 months.

thanks for the heads up - if its that low in kcal we won't be going in that direction.  That would cost WAY too much to keep my canine companion fed
I wonder how i can find out for sure
May be someone here can weigh out a cup of some of their formulas for us and we can figure out calories from there
BTW what does it say to feed a 100lb dog?

    According to the TWO website....

    Recommended Daily Feeding
    TOY: 5 - 15 LBS (2 - 7 kg) 25 - 120 grams or 1/4 - 3/4 cup*
    SMALL: 15 - 30 LBS (7 - 14 kg) 100 - 245 grams or 3/4 - 1 3/4 cups*
    MEDIUM: 31 - 50 LBS (14 - 23 kg) 200 - 400 grams or 1 1/4 - 2 3/4 cups*
    LARGE: 51 - 80 LBS (23 - 36 kg) 322 - 630 grams or 2 - 4 1/4 cups*
    EX LARGE: 81 - 100 LBS (36 - 45 kg) 500 - 800 or 3 1/4 - 5 1/4 cups* GIANT: 100 -150 LBS (45 - 68 kg) 630 - 1200 grams or 4 1/4 - 8 cups*

Now for my 75 and 80 pound pups it recommends between 2-4 1/4 cups a day.  I only feed 3- 3 1/2 cups a day and if I fed the full amount (4 1/2 cups) I am afraid they would be porkers!!  [:o]

Houston is 84lbs, want him to stay there[;)] we feed him 2.5 cups a day and he does very well. Maya eats the same and Houston's if she can weazel her way in there!![&:]

    • Gold Top Dog
It must depend on the dog...  Wes is 47 lbs. and he eats either 3 cups/day or 1 1/2 cups for one meal and home cooked for the other.   He is also fed A LOT of treats...  everyone (except people who know what healthy dogs should look like [;)]) think he is too thin...  I could probably feed a little more, but since he is part lab and might be prone to hip problems etc., I prefer to keep him on the thinner side...

looking at yours and others replies I'm guessing that it isn't as caloric as the dog food project suggests.  Well I'll try it and see.  Bugs is on about 2000kcal/day of kibble so that is what I had based my calculations on - he gets 8 oz of raw beef heart or king mackerel, plus kongs with biscuits, NB food roll, banana, pb etc so my guess is he is on a total of 3000/day
in the last week he has been raenously hungry and extra sleepy and appears to be growing (yet again) so we are not stable yet.
thanks for the info to all!
