Do you all eat as healthful as your dog does?

Do you all eat as healthful as your dog does?

I only ask because lately I've been struggling so much with my diet. I've been through a few really rough patches and I can't seem to want to get myself back on track but I'm SO incredibly vigilant about what goes into my two dogs' mouths.

Such an incongruency . . . I keep hoping that I'll come around again!

I'm with you on that, I have such a hard time controlling my own diet.

But, when it comes to my dog I just about got it. She only get certain foods and only at certain times and I mesure it all out. She eats even more healthy than I do. If I feed myself the way I feed my dog I would be so healthy right now.

When it comes to health care she also has seen a vet more times than I have seen a human Dr. in my whole life[:)] For me if I have a little bit of pain I don't really bother but when Giz has the slightest bump she sees the vet that day or as soon as she can.

usually yes, since my dog eats half my food [:D]

but lately i don't always even get to eat, either dont have time or just plain forget to, so berserkers got the upper hand on health right now.

my dog eats a LOT better than I do that's for sure. I always say that to everyone.

Do I eat as healthful as my dogs? I try. I say this while eating pecan pie for breakfast.  All you can do is try. Beating yourself up for not meeting some standard is a waste of energy IMO. Just try again.

oh for sure Ella eats WAY better than I do.
For one thing, she doesn't get chocolate.
She gets whole raw meats and vitamins everyday.

Shadow's meals are balanced. Mine are not.

I might have a short breakfast of Diet Coke and chocolate chip cookies, the only attempt at proper balance being at supper time.

Shadow's food is balanced to give him what he needs and it is 95+ % what he heats everyday.

Are you kidding?  To do that, I'd probably have to spend five times what I do on groceries... As it is, though, I do buy organic eggs, milk, and some veggies.  And, I try to be good....too bad they don't make Innova for humans.  Life would be so easy.

I eat very healthy....it was human nutrition I was interested in first then dog nutrition came later.  I was getting colds that turned into bronchitis every winter and it seemed every flu/cold going around I got it.  Then I was getting bladder infections occasionally etc.  My conventional Doc would just give me antibiotics and send me on my way...never a talk about nutrition[:o]  It was in my early 20's I discovered Dr Weil (ordered his books in error from a book club)...since then I have never looked back.  I haven't had bronchitis or any sort of infection since I started eating healthy and I feel better now than I did then.  Once I felt how good and healthy good eating can be I started really looking at my dogs food.

I try to eat only organic foods including my cooking products such as baking powder...the non organic has aluminium in it...to free range eggs, meats, rice, pasta, organic yogurt, cereal, milk...I get everything organic.  I even use organic shampoo's that do not contain any Lauryl/Laureth sulfates etc.  I never deep fry any foods, and steam my veggies etc.  I don't barbecue any foods and never burn my meats as any burnt type food (typical on a BBQ) is carcinogentic - when it comes into contact with the throat and digestive tract it damages cells, leading to an increase in harmful free radicals.

So, yes, I do eat very healthy...I stay away from junk food and make my own organic snacks/cookies.  The only time I fail to eat healthy is when I go to some sort of function and who can resist some of those tasty foods other people make[:D]

I even make my own Kaluhau with organic vanilla beans...I can't find organic vodka tho lol

I'm trying to get into the mindset of just refusing food that is bad for me. I'm a social coke drinker, however - I don't know why, but I dont drink soda at home, but when I'm out with friends I love it. Wine would almost be better than coke! [;)]

We eat wholesome food when we are home. We are very bad when we are out because our budget is so limited. We end up at the Evil King, the Clown, the PigTailed Girl, or the Giant Burger Place. But we've reduced our eating out to once a week.

It was my struggle to feed my son when he was a toddler that educated me so much about nutrition. I had to figure out the nutritional value of everything that went into his mouth, because the goal was to get 12 grams of protein in him in the most nutrient dense form possible. Now I go through something similiar with some of my working dogs, so it's natural.

No; the grains in Jessie's food don't contain herbicides and are whole grains; I'm sure that the grains in most of the cereal and bread I eat has herbicides and I don't always eat whole grains. There is no BHA or BHT in her food. Her diet is always balanced and mine isn't. It's so much easier to feed her a balanced diet since it comes premade although I do cook part of her food. Like everyone else I try to eat a balanced diet but I don't eat everything I'm supposed to eat every day, such as fruit.

No. We eat better than average, but our dogs eat better than 99 percent of the canine world.

I used to eat a rather unhealthy diet, but seeing the difference it makes when I switched my dog and cats over to healthier diets, it has made me a little more mindful of what I eat. I don't buy everyhing organic (just some things, like eggs) and I try to consume foods and beverages with antioxidants like the green tea I'm drinking right now.  It's quite a bit easier for my pets to eat healthier though since I can buy their food premade and it takes a little less thought and a lot less time and money.  I do make sure they eat the best they possibly can because, let's face it, their lives are so short as it is and if a better diet allows them to live even a day longer, it is worth it.  As far as meals being balanced, I think it's not natural to eat a balanced meal every time, especially for a true omnivore like humans.  Our diet is so varied that it requires balance over time and would not be possible at every meal.  Wild canids diet is a lot more predictable and there is a lot less choice involved, and even then it would not be balanced at every meal.

If only I can get my husband to eat healthier, that's my next challenge and an uphill battle [&:]

I try to eat at least my veggies for the day but usually don't get in the fruit unless it's from orange juice.  I do eat a lot of carbs and dairy which I need to get under control with that.

I don't eat anything fried or any meats at all so in that respect I'm doing OK.

I do watch what Willow eats and I don't buy her junk treats and cookies.  If we are out and someone offers her one though I don't mind if she has it.  I try not to be too over the top with things.

I love all the responses! Love to read them all.

My holistic vet says to give it time, that I can't really work so hard for my dogs (and my cats now, too, since one has a hypothyroid) and not apply it to myself, so we'll see . .  .

Fingers crossed that I'll finally take good (enough) care of myself!
