Huskymom it's for people and dogs, there are no side effects,it's completely safe. Homeopathic remedies are available world wide,no question you'de be able to find it in Canada [sm=happy.gif] Check out the places i mentioned above, over here alot of normal pharmacies carry the more popular remedies, nux vom being one of them. I'm sorry i cant tell you exactly where you would be able to find it,maybe give a holistic vet in your area a call, they may even have some or be able to point you in the right direction. There's gotta be a canadian member on the board who knows??

Emma has had sloppy poops this morning,i gave her a dose of nux vom every hour for the past 7 hours and her last poop was semmy solid again and her tummy has stopped growling [sm=dance.gif]
Let me know how you go and if you are able to find it.

I'll do some checking around.  Usually when I know Crusher is going to have something new I give him a couple of tablespoons of pumpkin and so far it has always worked.  He has a stomach that I'm sure is made of rice paper.  Always has and vet says always will.  The girls have cast iron tummies thank god!  They love the pumpkin.  Do your dogs like the nux vom?  Is it tricky to give to them?  Crusher and the puppies will eat pumpkin even if there is a nice juicy bone at their feet.  Of course I feed it to them off of a spoon so that might have something to do with it.[:D]

Nah it's easy to give.I crush the pilules inbetween 2 spoons and pop the powder straight in their mouth, the pilules have a sweet taste so most dogs take them readily anayway,my dogs wont take any medication type stuff willingly [sm=uhoh.gif] You can also crush them up and put them in their drinking water, that way everyone gets a dose when they take a drink. It is advisable to give the remedies away from food,1/2 hour or so,so it's not advisable to smuggle them in treats or food.

Haha well I wouldn't have to worry about crusher taking it then.  He will eat anything I give him.  One time I got irritated with him cause he was begging for an orange that I was peeling so I gave him a little piece of the peel.  It took him a while but he felt obligated to eat it because I gave it to him.  When he was on meds for an inverted rectum he would eat the pills whole just because I handed them to him!

so I may have missed it, but please educate me. How much pumpkin do you give for tummy trouble? Is it fresh or canned or either? How often?
    • Gold Top Dog
I use canned.  The plain kind not the kind for pies that has the spices already mixed in.  I usually give a couple tablespoons or so.  My dogs love it and so far we haven't overdosed.  Its actually a pretty regular part of thier diet as Crusher has tummy troubles any time he has something different and pumpkin only comes in big cans.

I keep in on hand all the time.
I lightly cook meat for Bubby and add veggies, so sometimes I put a whole can into about 2 # of ground beef, turkey or pork.
I like to have it in case of a loose stool but my experience has been if they have a case of full fledged diarrhea, it really doesn't help much.  If they are sick or so.  But if they had a little upset, maybe from food it seems to help.

ok- one more dumb question... do I have to cook it or just feed it out of the can (like just plop some on top of his rice and chix?)
    • Gold Top Dog
    Straight out the can jprinz.

Would fresh baked or steamed pumpkin do the same job? We dont have canned pumpkin over here [&:]
    • Gold Top Dog
I mix a whole can, right out of the can with meat.
If I give her tablespoons, its right out of the can also.
I don't know why it works, consequently, I don't know if steamed or baked works.  My guess is the canned is baked or cooked so I would guess YES!
    Try it! Let us know!

Don't forget,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOT the kind with seasoning in,,,just plain pumpkin!  In our stores its in the baking isle next to the kind with seasoning.   In a specialty store its with the veggies WHEN they sell it around the holidays!
