    Avocados...no good

    Thank you,

I thought it was from high fat content - was just guessing since I never read why  to avoid them.  Thanks

I think there are differing opinions on avocado's.My dogs love them, and get a little very now and then, there are also a couple of dog foods that contain it. I know it's the persin that is classed as poisonous which is found mainly in the skin and the pit.

I had considered feeding Avoderm by Breeders Choice until I found out JJ had rice allergies....that idea went out the door! Avocado is  used in this food...but obviously not the toxic parts both you and the article mentioned.
"Avocado leaves, fruit, seeds and bark contain a toxic principle known as persin,”

Avoderm does have a fantastic shampoo made with avocado oil that I use, but again non-toxic.

Ed- thanks for posting this...my aunts dog runs around her yard eating the fallen fruit from the trees and she has 3 avocado trees so I will be sure to pass this info on to her.[:D]
