Too Little?

    Too Little?

No matter how much we feed our little hoover she is still a skinny little girl!  My mom and sis wonders if she's too skinny and I know secretly behind our back feeds her all sorts of stuff. (which we pay for in stinky farts [&:])
She is an active puppy (1 years old) so we feed her 1 cup more than the recommended amount on the bag (she's on Timerwolf) .  When we first got her we were accidently fed her 2x the amount she should be eating, we were new parents and read the label wrong [:o] (hmmmm...maybe that's why she is 2x the size they expected her to be full grown)....alas she just had more poops and we can still see her ribs.
It was brought to our attention that she actually might be part whippet.  Would that cause her to be skinner than your average pup?  Or is there some sort of medical condition that would cause her to eat and not gain any weight?

    Hi
What breed was she supposed to be? She does have whippet earset but she looks more like a pit bull.  Whippets are tall and slim.  Pitbulls have a  very wide ribcage and their ribs do tend to protrude, making them look thin..wide and thin.
Have you had her tested for worms, giardia, coccidia? Hookworms are hard to find in stool samples, as are tape worms.

    Hi,
The shelter we adopted her from said she was a pitbull but her legs keep on getting longer and longer and she has that tuck under her bum that a whippet has.
We have recently had a full checkup done and the vet she's in excellent health and to just keep feeding her more (she was mal nutrition when we adopted her)
She seems to have an endless amount of energy...i'm probably worrying about nothing.

My pug started losing weight when we moved to our new home.  I took him to the vet when he would eat tons and stay skinny.  They tested him for worms and he was positive for whipworms.  After we treated him and all the other dogs for it we switched from heartgaurd to interceptor because it protects against them and they can live in the ground for a long time  Now he he is a happy healthy bulky looking pug.  I can't say for sure if your dog has this but just wanted to share my experience with lack of weight gain.

As long as she's BEEN skinny, and this is not a new thing, I wouldn't worry too much. She's young and active. It's better that she stays thin. If her spine and hips aren't visible, and her ribs are barely visible, she's just right[:D]

See, I can't state my opinion until I see more pictures of that gorgeous girl.
    I'm serious.
Not a word of advice from me.[:D]

There's nothing wrong with being skinny! Especially if she's got whippet in her... I think if she's only 1 she's still growing so most likely a lot of energy will still be going towards that.
My puppy Pocket (who actually looks a lot like your Kika), is a greyhound x and is SUPER skinny too.

For what it's worth, I agree with Chewbecca- far better advice would be given if we got to see more ;pics!!

My chihuahua is the exact  same way. He was on poor quality kibble for years (I didn't know better) and no matter how much I gave him, he wouldn't eat much and wouldn't gain weight. He was always so skinny that I couldn't take him out in public without a sweater on because people would come up to me and accuse me of starving him. All medical problems had been ruled out, and the vet said that was "just how he was" and that he wouldn't allow himself to starve. I was really afraid that he WAS starving to death. I finally researched different diets and have changed his diet several times...he hated every super premium brand we tried and the only thing he's ever done well on is raw. He hated all kibbles so much that he would rather starve than eat them. Giving him raw is the ONLY way to get him to eat enough to be healthy. He also needs a ridiculous amount of food for his size- he's big for a chihuahua and at a healthy weight he weighs 9-10 pounds. To keep his weight up, he has to eat over a pound of raw a day. I guess he just has a really fast metabolism...when I told the vet about his diet change and the amount I was giving him, he just lectured me about how dangerous it was to feed him a raw diet and told me to switch him back to kibble right away. [8|] So the vet didn't really give me any useful ideas as to why he needs to eat nearly 10% of his body weight every day just to maintain a normal body weight.

I agree with everyone else though that she may just be nice and trim, rather than truly skinny. More pics would help. [:D]

I would prefer to see a dog or a person, for that matter, too thin rather than too fat.  Pit bulls are supposed to appear thin.

In the avatar her face looks more pit bull like. I dunno about her body, she can't gain weight in a week it takes MONTHS! Just like us, we have to eat & eat until we maintain the ideal weight. Just give it more time ;) & like you said she's getting taller. So that could be why she's looking thin like? Maybe give her 1/2 cup per scoop of kibbles twice a day?

If you're concern about it, take her to the vet get her weight

Pit Bulls have a large tuck as well. A lot of them are skinny looking, their ribs are supposed to show, this is America, the land of the obese, dont let your dog fall victim to it eitehr. Feed her what is reccomended on the bag and nothing more excpet snacks
Here you can kinda see Rory's tuck, its a biggie to, you can also see her ribs. They are supposed to be lean, mean  machines!

Yup, 100% APBT, UKC and all. I didnt crop her ears and I must admit she has considerably long legs for her breed.
Thank you though, I always told my husband that if BSL comes to town she is a VISZLA, ha ha! It also makes me feel good becuase she is the way a pit bull is supposed to look, UKC standards dont go above 65lbs for males. All the overgrown big necked pitbulls that weigh up to 120lbs have been cross bred and they are the ones who get all of us pit bull people in trouble!
Imagine one of those hippos tearing across a field to take down a bull, ha ha ha ha!
True pit bull people would never own one of those hippos and there is actually a petiton to get those types (by certian breeders who cross mix) to have their UKC papers revoked and/or registered as soemthing else

I dunno Sheprano.. These UKC Grand Champions look more like my sister's "hippo" than Rory.

Though Jaz is much larger than the standard. He's an irresponsibly bred Baltimore pitty though.

Ok so you admit that they are too bog for the standard. Go read my new post in Anything and Everything dubbed "the pit bull battle"
However your sister's dogs are no where near a hippo, they are just a larger version but still not standard they are right in the middle.
Plus there is a differnece between show pit and game bred pits so that is where you get a large variety. Rory is game bred where your sis's are most likely show bred, huge differnece
