I homecook for my dog. His ear infections and skin problems are gone. I started homecooking for him in May after a long (almost 2 months) of a very bad ear infection that just wouldn't go away. Anyway, he is doing very well on homecooked.
I give him homecooked twice a day and supplement with Solgar Bonemeal. The serving size on the label is 1 teaspoon is 5 g. Calcium is 1000mg and Phosphorus is 600mg. I use 1 and 1/2 teaspoon for one day. My dog is about 32 pounds.
In "The Better Food For Dogs" cookbook, by David Bastin, it gives the nutrient requirements for a 30lb. dog. For calcium 1,618mg is the minimum requirement per day. Phosphorus is 1,201 mg.
Am I giving my dog too much bonemeal? I don't mind cooking for him, but I get stressed out because I don't know if I'm giving the correct amount of bonemeal. I don't understand the calcium/phosphorus ratio. I just follow what it says in the cookbook. I don't want to hurt Jake by giving him too much or too little bonemeal.
