    Let's Talk Turkey....

Dh and my work gives out vouchers for free turkeys every Thanksgiving.  Since it's just DH and I, I was thinking of using one of the turkeys for the dogs.

-If a dog is allergic to chicken, as Sally is, are they also allergic to turkey?

-If so, and Jack has the turkey to himself, what kind of good/safe/yummy turkey things can I give a 16-18 weeks old pup?

Do a turkey "Jerky" in your oven or food dehydrator! Make a big pot of "stew" and freeze it in portioned sizes. If you feed raw, cut into pieces to match portion sizes.
    Do portioned sized "Pot Pies"

Sally may or may not be allergic to turkey. Some are more sensitive to some poultry and not others. Maybe she is more sensitive to "processed" meats as opposed to fresh cooked or raw meats.

Don't forget the "gibblets" Heart, liver, and gizzards make great treats or snacks

Or if all this sounds like to much work, you could donate one to the homeless shelter or a dog rescue.

Willow is not allergic to turkey but has big problems with chicken and eggs.

Ben is violently allergic to chicken/eggs - so much so that he can't eat most products with chicken fat even. But other poultry/bird is fine for him.

I stay away from turkey however for most of my dogs, because it's so very lean. I'm starting a homeade turkey/venison/coconut oil based diet this week for Doug the Dog, who is recovering from Pancreatitis. That's the wonderful thing about home prepared diets - there's so much flexibility there - if something doesn't work, you are pretty sure what it was and you just don't feed it.
