Help!! Soft stools STILL

That sounds like a good plan.  But, you might want to go with something other than Timberwolf.  It's a pretty complicated (lots of ingredients) food and if you continue to have issues you're never going to know what's causing it.  That's just my suggestion, not because of the quality of the food, just the many ingredients.

I've got to try to dig up some pictures of my husbands previous dog, Zippy.  She looked sooooo much like Scout, almost identical.

Sci-Fi's not a pug, is he??  I thought he looked like a French Bulldog???

Do you live where there is a Petco??  You could pick up Natural Balance and the bite size is pretty small.

    Correct.  He's a Frenchie.
I'll take a look at Natural Balance on our next visit to the petstore.  I'm not super concerned, but was just wondering.  After all, the poop in his crate this morning was hardened and it wasn't there more than 2 hours.  :(

Just my two cents :-) I, too, had heard that most dogs, even if they can't digest dairy, do ok with yogurt/cottage cheese but I don't think that's always the case.

Yep. That's my June. She can't handle yogurt, or cottage cheese. Pumpkin also gives her troubles. She also doesn't handle kibbles with milk powder in them very well. ugh.

    That's a good point.

Maybe Natural Balance Potato & Duck.... but I just looked at the ingredients and potatoes are the first ingredient (not a meat...) - I'm a little disappointed at that.

A regular potato is 80% water though, so there may not be that much potato in there after cooking.

My dog also has been having soft stools,  so am wondering if Timberwolf Organics is even available in Canada?  I live in B.C. and haven't seen or heard of it here.

I wouldn't put too much emphasis on meat not being the first ingredient.  Potato is the only carb source in this food and, like another poster said, it is mostly water.  A lot of the decent   foods have meat or meat meal as the first ingredient, and then it is followed by grain 1, grain2, then maybe another meat source, grain 3 etc...  You're then ending up with a food that's still mostly carbs even though meat is the first ingredient.  I'm a member of a breed specific board and there are a lot of people over there that have had great success with the NB allergy formulas.

Personally, I use Innova (Large Breed Puppy for my dog, but he will be on EVO when he is old enough for adult food), and have had great results with it. However, Innova is made by the Cali Natural people, so it may not be the food for you.

If you're having trouble getting your dog to eat, put some water in the food and microwave it for a few seconds. Worked like a charm for us [:)].

Joey either has soft stool problems or constipation.  I've found 2 foods that help with this...
    Eagle Pack Lamb and Rice
    Natures Logic Lamb or Venison

Probably because both foods contain alot of probiotics.  I actually noticed immediate improvment on Nature's Logic.  Eagle Pack it took a week.

Are you feeding California Natural for skin or stomach problems?  I ask because both Eagle Pack Lamb and Nature's Logic are great for skin problems.  Eagle Pack Lamb is a little more basic than Nature's Logic and would, therefore, be better for stomach problems.

    Good Luck

I'm more than open to suggestions that won't break the bank. :)

I thought by now a Pug owner would have jumped in and suggested something.  I tend to think this guy [linkhttp://home.att.net/%7Ewdcusick/06.html]http://home.att.net/~wdcusick/06.html[/link]  has a point (whether I agree completely or not) so what works for my German Shepherd may be quite different from what works for your "portable" dog.

Very true.  Canidae is another food that is not very palatable (tasty).  You have a French Bulldog, correct? or at least that's what I get from the avatar.  They tend to be fussy.  I would try...

    Chicken Soup Puppy
it's about the same price as Science Diet and much healthier. I've found that alot of dogs really like this food.
Royal Canin Mini Puppy (for small breeds) is also very tasty, but is more expensive than SD
Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy is also very tasty and is less expensive than SD and a little healthier.
Eagle Pack Small Breed Puppy Original is less expensive and healthier
Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken for small and Medium breed pups and adults is very tasty and the best of the foods I've mentioned, but pretty pricy.

Really the switch from Dog Chow to Science Diet wasn't that "healthy" of a switch.

I've had the same results with adding to much pumpkin-in other words too much of a good thing definitely gives the opposite effect that we are looking for!
If you are not able to find a food that works then  try adding a little potato skin instead of pumpkin (or at least until you find another food). Potato skin (boiled or microwaved potatoes) for what it's worth, does an amazing job of firming up both of my dog's doo- if I've fed them something that makes it too soft (like too many pieces of fruit as treats).Ultimately of course you will want to find a food that gives a nice firm stool but this may help for now, especially since the anal glands may need some firm stool to stay healthy.
I found out accidentally when I fed them a bit too much of it one day (a little seems to go a long way). Oh, not so much the red skinned potatoes but the brown skinned type of potatoe. You can even shred it, pulverize or cut with scissors.
Good luck, hopefully you will find a food for Scout that works and gives a nice stool. Scout is lovely by the way.

Thank you so much for the suggestion!!
