• Help!! Soft stools STILL Scout in Canada Posted : 11/13/2006 7:18:17 AM Scout eats Cali Nat Lamb & Rice. She was allergic to something in her last food, which was chicken based, but could have been any number of ingredients.   Anyway I give her food 2x per day with one or all of pumpkin, yogurt, and cottage cheese.   Despite this, her stools are always soft and take ages to harden at all.   Any recommendations? She will be 1 year old in 2 months so I am open to switching foods and/or adding supplements. • Boxermom4 Posted : 11/13/2006 8:02:03 AM Well, Im no expert but, maybe it's too much on the days you add pumpkin, and yogurt. I have added pumpkin to the dogs food on occasion, but only a teaspoon per bowl, too much can actually give them the runny poos I have switched their food and don't have to do this anymore. I think yogurt could maybe be cut down also. Have you tried feeding just the food without all the add-ins? I wonder if you started from there and then worked up. Any gas? or any other signs of upset? I had to switch their food for another reason ( bad allergies, chicken , turkey, etc. ) I switched to Timberwolf organics and Ive never looked back, I add nothing to it. • tzu_mom Posted : 11/13/2006 8:54:45 AM That California Natural must not be the most palatable of foods.  When I was still feeding kibble, I actually tried this food---my guy absolutely refused to eat it, and went on a 2 day hunger strike before I gave in and tried another kibble.  The ONLY kibble he would eat are the Timberwolf Organics:  Dakota Bison, Ocean Blue, and Elk formulas.  He also would eat  theNature's Variety formulas, though not as willingly as TO. What's funny is, he never really ate any kibble with any kind of enthusiasm.   He is now on a raw diet, and eats great!  As for the soft stools, the addition of a probiotic might help.  You may also want to temporarily add a good quality enzyme to aid his digestion--I use Berte's Zyme from B-Naturals, and have friends who have great luck with Prozyme. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Since she is getting close to switching to adult formula, I might take that opportunity to switch brands. • jjsmom06 Posted : 11/13/2006 11:41:15 AM Scout- it could definately be the mix ins of pumpkin, yogurt or cottage cheese.  If you don't want to add in a little canned food, then other suggestions I have would be soe ecanned evangers meat, maybe a little canned sardines or canned salmon and you could always try crockpotting some chicken, beef or lamb. It is easy, cheap adn makes a lot.   My guys do great on these things IF I only add in a tablespoon or two. I was under the impression that pumpkin and yogurt helped "wake up" the digestive system so it would function better. But maybe that is backfiring here. Is it a general rule of thumb that these foods give softer stools?   I did see the TWO thread and have read a lot about poo as a result!! • willowchow Posted : 11/13/2006 12:49:05 PM I agree with Laura it could just simply be the cottage cheese.  I've found that even dogs who can't handle dairy still do OK with just a little yogurt for the most part.  But, it could be that too.    I've had really good results with the Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato.  Willow has digestive problems and we haven't had any issues at all on it and she will eat it.  She's extremely fussy especially about kibble.  0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Sci-Fi's gifts to the yard are soft but not runny or messy - honestly I've no clue how long they take to harden up... should I be watching this?
