The whole picture - what do you feed?

They eat Tomberwolf organics, Ocean Blue. We have allergies and bad tummies so we basically stick with this. Maya has colitis so it's best not to dirupt things[8D]
We do give them fruit and ice cubes [:D]which they love!! Especially bananas and apples!!
We give them Timberwolf organics wild salmon oil everyday. It's very high in Omega3 , a natural anti-inflamatory and it does help to lower the risk of cancer or some cancers. Having boxers this was important to us, wev'e lost 2 of our babies to cancer already. I just keep trying to do the very best I can for them, I do hope all of theese are helpful to you !

    1. Innova Small Bites in am, in pm I rotate canned Innova, Solid Gold, Natural Balance and Wellness
    2. Usually a little bit of whatever we are eating, not too much because it upsets her stomach.  I used to give a raw chicken wing every 3rd night, but hubby made me stop - it freaks him out
    3. no supplements currently

I feed Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul dog food! It is a great food, very high quality ingredients.  My main kibble is Timberwolf Organics Dakota Bison, but I switch to Chicken Soup between every other bag of TWO.  Occasionally I will feed boiled ground beef and rice, which they love!!!
I try to give Wellness powdered supplement, but they will not, I repeat, will NOT eat it over kibble. I have gotten wet food and mashed it in a little ball of that, and that seems to work. I also give doggie chewable vitamins, that I get at PetSmart.

There are some folks who feed Chicken Soup on this forum and really like it!
Some folks won#%92t consider feeding it because it is made by Diamond foods.

I have never fed it simply because none of the stores in my area carry it.

    1.  My three dogs are each on different diets. I've gotten pretty big on doing individualized diets. My chihuahua does best on raw so that's what he's on. Generally he gets 2 meals a day- usually chicken legs or wings, a raw egg, a little muscle meat, and some organs. The only pet food he gets is Pet Botanics meat rolls, which contains alot of good organ meats. Sometimes I use that in place of his organ or muscle meat for the day. My bulldog doesn't do well on raw, and he just switched from Canidae to Blue Buffalo Lamb and Rice. I'm not sure yet, but I might switch him back. He also gets his kibble mixed with Pet Botanics meat rolls. My akita I've only had for a few weeks, so I'm not sure what's best for him, but right now he's also getting what my bulldog gets, along with a few raw meals a week. I'm probably going to transition him totally to raw and see how he does.

    2. My chi is rawfed, so it's all "people" food for him. Sometimes I mix a little rice with the other's food, and they all get a raw egg every day. I like to cook for them so they get a variety of healthy things. They also get the occasional carrot or apple or whatever fruit or veggie I have on hand as a treat, but I try to keep non-meat stuff to a minimum.

    3. They get  Missing Link Joint Support daily, sometimes 8in1 Skin and Coat, garlic, fish oil, flax, and kelp.

    Gingerbread gets:

    1. Either Timberwolf Organics Wilderness Elk or Eagle Pack Holistic Duck Meal & Oatmeal. I mix in either lamb babyfood, plain yogurt, plain pumpkin, canned Eagle Pack, or canned Wellness (that's the only way he'll eat kibble).

    2. Maybe once a week or so I give him a little (like a tbsp) of cooked chicken when I'm having that for dinner.

    3. I mix in Prozyme with every meal because he never eats enough and it helps to keep weight on him by absorbing more nutrients. Once or twice a week (if I remember [&:] I mix in Grizzly Salmon Oil).

I think it's too busy - too many proteins and such. I think it's a little faddish - but that's JMO. Besides there are foods out there I like better.

kibble : currently a mix of NB venison & brown rice and Blue Buffaloe Lge breed - but sometimes he gets some sample packs (merrick, TO, canidae, solid gold) for the fun of it - will feed several that don't have egg (allergy) - I usually wet the kibble but sometimes its dry

extras: discovered he does better with extra meat so he gets ground beef (raw) or king mackerel (cooked) at least 6 times per week - occasional ckn livers, beef stew meat, other lean meat, sweet potatos, pumpkin, broccoli, banana, yogurt, cheese...........
also gets some NB lamb roll in his kong and a biscuit of some sort
this list could get long - he doesn't get unhealthy food and we monitor how much we feed but he does get to try a lot of things (meat/dairy/veg/ fruit) and so far not much (struggling to think of anything) has been rejected

supplements: calcium when he gets the added meat, fish oil & E, sometimes flax oil, and gluco/chond/msm tablet
his allergies mean that essentially Benedryl is a supplement [&:]

I won't be posting about that on the forums again because of my experience before. [;)]

Kibble; I rotate Eagle Pack Holistic Duck, Fish, and Lamb, and occasionally Nature's Variety Beef or Venison;( Jessie's allergic to anything with chicken in it, including animal digest)

Extras;  I add a small amount of cooked lean meat to her food daily, such as turkey, fish, or beef ; she also gets a soft scrambled egg a few times a week. Jessie is seven and a half to eight years old and senior dogs need more protein than younger dogs and less fat to maintain lean muscle mass. I don't mix canned food into her kibble as much anymore because it has a lot of fat on a DMB and it's easier to provide the extra protein and manage her weight with lean meat. I can't feed her the Eagle Pack Senior because of her chicken allergy so by adding some lean meat to her food I increase her protein intake without added fat. I also add a small amount of cooked or pureed fruits and vegetables because I subscribe to Wysong's theory that no processed dog food is 100% complete because it's missing nutrients that are provided by fresher foods.

Supplements; I've ordered some wild salmon oil and it will be replacing the fish oil capsules she was getting because it has a lot less contaminants such as pcb's and the like. She has been given fish oil for years for the anti inflamatory properties to help manage her allergies. I also add a quercitin-bromelain supplement for her allergies.

    1.   Mine is currently getting Timberwolf Organics Lamb & Apples

    2.  Most of the time he gets California Natural Lamb & Brown Rice canned, or Nutro Natural Choice pouches for breakfast (depends).  Occasionally I'll give him some boiled lamb (meat only) with sweet potatoes and a dollup of plain yogurt (usually whole, organic).  I usually boil it with a beef marrow bone or two so the marrow is in there as well.  When I do that, I make a batch that will usually last him a week (feeding it once a day).

    3.  He gest a derm. capsule (not the brand Derm Caps, but something similar) once a day...this contains a mixture of fish oil, vitamin E, and other seed oils.

I have a question... does everyone who feeds a mix of kibble and other foods limit the amount of kibble to compensate for the other food?  Scout's getting more and more trustworthy unsupervised in the kitchen when we are home, so we'll probably start easing her into free reign of the kitchen when we aren't home soon.  I want to buy a few more kongs and put a variety of stuff in them to keep her busy while we're gone, but I'm worried about over feeding.  If kibble is fed as the main meals, how do you balance that out with other food?  Also, when I feed chew treats like bully sticks and rawhide, do I need to take that into consideration as part of her daily feed?  Right now she's getting 4 cups dry and 1/3 can wet as her main meal, a half-cup under the recommended amount, plus the other stuff we feed her (yougurt, carrots, chew treats), and her weight is fine.
