    Fresh Pumpkin

    Hello all!

Well it's Halloween season, YAY!!!!  :D  Anyway, I've been carving pumpkins and loving every minute of it.  I know I've read many, many posts on here regarding giving your dog canned pumpkin.  I was just wondering, how much fresh pumpkin can I give him?  I've given him a couple tiny pieces & he seems to really like it!  Just wondering.  Thanks in advance!

Of fresh, give as much as you want to clean up out the other end! A whole lot would probably make him rather loose for a day or so but it wouldn't hurt him.

My rule for not upsetting digestion is no more than 1/4 of total intake. So if your dog eats 10 oz of kibble normally, you wouldn't want to give him more than a couple ounces.

It's much better tolerated, steamed, and your dog will get the benefit of the vitamins/minerals in this veggie. Or you can run it through the blender, though it's a pretty hard veggie to pulverize before it's cooked.

My dogs love roasted pumpkin seeds too!

I was wondering about the pumpking seeds.  I was just afraid they were not good for him.  I'll have to try that once I finish baking my 2nd batch!

I got one to carve today and I am going to cook the "guts" for my dogs and give the seeds to my son to roast.  They will love fresh cooked pumpkin on their morning kibble for a few days.  When I was at the grocery story, they had Gerbers stage 2 veggies on sale  (well, some of them) for 25c a jar and i got several for future toppers for my dogs breakfast kibble.

Oooo!  I like the super cheap baby food idea!  I really wish Halloween & pumpkin season was all year round! [:D]

A few months ago i really lucked out when the store had a "blow out sale' on some of the gerbers for 10c a jar.  I don't rmember exact figures now, but I get over 100 jars of sweet potatoes and green beans, about 5 of the sweet potatoes to every one of the green beans.  They looked at me like i was nut when i showed up at the check out with every single jar of the potatoes and almost every one of the green beans they had.    I used some of the sweet potaotes in the frosty paws i make for my dogs.
