Changed foods, when will we see some change?

So we recently switched Winston from Canidae ALS to Innova puppy . . . the reason for the switch was that he seemed to be itchy in his hind quarters, and licked his butt like clockwork after eliminating (outside of after eliminating though, he leaves his butt alone).  After a gradual transition he is now eating just the Innova puppy.  It has been one day wince the complete switch, if we are going to see a difference, when should we expect to start seeing some changes?  (e.g. no more itching, or licking after pooping, etc.)

It normally takes a few weeks or up to a month to see a change.....but some people do see changes earlier.

However, you switched from Canidae to Innova which are almost the same ingredient wise....it may be that whatever was irritating your dog in the Canidae may be in the Innova too....

Yeah, I know that chicken and turkey are common ingredients between the two, but the Innova doesnt have the lamb or the fish so it will at least let me rule out those two as potential irritants of it stops.

Well, I finish this bag and see how things are when its gone . . . it takes winston about a four to six weeks to get through 16 pounds of kibble.

Just a heads up, Poultry is rated # 4 when it comes to dog allergies (wheat, corn, beef, poultry).  Try the Innova for a month.  If it doesn't work, maybe try Canidae's new Lamb and Rice formula.

Shohin; Are his hindquarters the only place that itches? Jessie needs to have her anal sacs emptied occasionally because they become impacted. She chews and licks the area under her tail and also scoots her bottom when they're impacted. She also has a food allergy to chicken and environmental allergies; dogs with allergies to food or pollen itch many places including thier sides, face, and ears, so you may want to have the vet check his anal sacs.
The food you chose is too similar to his old food if you are trying to see if he has a food allergy; Sensible Choice, which is made by Royal Canin, has a Lamb and Rice food that would be much better for you to try;  [linkhttp://www.sensiblechoice.com/SCHDLRA.HTM]http://www.sensiblechoice.com/SCHDLRA.HTM[/link]. You can find it at Petco and feed stores. Another option would be a prescription food made by Royal Canin such as IVD potato and rabbit, potato and duck, and potato and venison; your vet can order one of those for you;   [linkhttp://www.royalcanin.us/vetdiet/caninepotatorabbit.html]http://www.royalcanin.us/vetdiet/caninepotatorabbit.html[/link]

No, he's not scooting on the floor at all, and he itches in more areas that just his behind . . . I've seen him itch basically everywhere, but its most concentrated from his waist back.

I think if it's a true food allergy you'll probably see results pretty quickly. Only speaking from my experience of course....... I know when I was feeding Gingerbread Eagle Pack Holistic Duck, within a few days of starting him on that food he was scratching his ears like CRAZY, he had scabs in them and the hair behind them was matted. Within one meal (switched him to a different food) the scratching stopped by something like 90%.

I hope Canidae works for Winston, if not I would definitely switch to a food with no poultry. Good luck!

I agree; when we put Jessie on an elimination diet to see if she had food allergies she was much better within two weeks, but as jojo warned poultry is a common food allergy for dogs and Innova has chicken.
