Yeah, thank GOD that I am mainly feeding Ella raw now.
Now I have more control over the ingredients going into her body.

It wouldn't surprise me what they put in that stuff. Kibble especially. I know that over here there are acts in place that prevent pet food processing plants from using any meat that they didn't kill themselves on the premises or that died of natural causes on the premises. They also aren't allowed to use any meat from diseased animals.

However, I don't know who checks on this and how much of our pet food is imported. Frankly, even if it's just mostly grain, which many of them are, I think that alone is enough to look for alternative foods. I feed homecooked and raw and I like knowing what's going into the food I feed my dog. She's a lot healthier for it and is currently bouncing around like a puppy every day despite being nearly 11 years old.

In spite of what the book says, and I've read it, there are many excellent kibbles such as Canidae, Innova, Timberwolf, etc., which only use high quality ingredients. Also, someone on this forum has a BF that works for Purina and said thier quality control is very strict so even though many of us don't approve of the ingredients in foods like Science Diet and Purina it's unfair to assume they use the 4D meats, etc., as described in the book.

Anyone can write anything anything and get it published.   It is so hard to know what is true and what is false, what has truly been proven  and what is only "believed" by some to be proven, what is fact and what is opinion. AND what is propaganda put out by one person/company about another person/company. etc to try draw sales away from that company or to hurt the other person or try to put the other person/company in a bad light.

People are pretty intense about what they have decided is good to feed dogs. [:)] I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone that's found a good kibble. Just because I've given up and written them all off does not mean they're all bad. In my defence, we don't have good ones readily available over here.

I'm a convert and I get preachy. It's a vice of mine. Good for everyone who actually looked at the ingredients in kibble and picked a decent one!

I understand what you mean. I have a good 10 lbs. of timberwolf organics kibble left and I am not going to waste because it IS a decent kibble, but I don't want to feed Ella kibble of ANY kind. I think about how it does absolutely NOTHING good for their teeth (cleaning wise) and it makes me cringe.
It's hard to remain quiet about something you really believe in. But when we go off on people about what they feed their dogs, I think we not only come off as preachy, but also a bit snobby.
I just try to nicely tell people that I feed Ella raw and then I try to nicely tell them the benefits of it and not put dog food down.
Then if they continue to say that they think it's gross to feed raw, I just shrug my shoulders and tell them that I believe that I'm doing it for her health and it's how I choose to feed my dog.

I think that's a pretty crazy statement. Does everything you put in your mouth clean your teeth or do you , like the rest of us, still have to use a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss ??? ALL of my 8 animals eat TWO iand they all have absolutely sparkling white teeth. Common sense would tell anyone that a dog needs healthy things to chew and gnaw on to naturally keep their teeth and gums in good health too.  Kibble should never  be the sole source of their diet. My dogs get regular RMBs at least 3x a week to keep their teeth clean. They also get bully sticks to gnaw on and tough 100% natural rubber or rope toys . These dogs couldn't have better teeth. Quality kibble does not contribute to plaque and tartar build up. Plaque and tartar are caused by STARCHES found in grains and sugars. Most high quality foods have VERY little grains and most have no sugars. Cheap dogfoods on the other hand are grain based and loaded with sugars and that's why those dogs have some of the worst teeth /breath /gums going. Why do you think the people who invented Greenies are multi-millionaires ?? They're reaping the benefits from all the people who feed their dogs junk food and there are millions of them out there. If everyone was feeding quality holistic foods supplemented  with fresh foods, rmbs and raw they'd be out of business in the blink of an eye

    UGH.
I feed TO, too. And, yes, it IS a great quality kibble and I meant that I wouldn't want to feed it alone. It's nice to have on hand, but I wouldn't feed it alone unless I HAD to. And if you think TO doesn't contribute to plaque on at least SOME dogs, ask, I believe it's Chelseab. about it. She sees a significant plaque build up on TO, I believe.
    Don't start with me, lady.
Do you think it's possible for you to say something nice to at least SOMEONE here?
Or is your mission to try to make as many people as possible look stupid so that you can look like you know more than anyone else?
