What did your dog(s) eat today?

I also vary the diets of my dogs from day to day.

This morning, my chis had their bowls of Timberwolf Organics.  I threw in some carrots and apples and salmon oil.

They have already had dinner since I will not be home later, so they had their dry (TWO) mixed with some canned venison 95% meat Innova Evo.

PM- 1/4 cup dry Innova EVO, 2 tbsp Innova EVO 95% Venison and some smoked Tulibee (fish) we had for supper.

She also had whatever scraps or bits that fall on the floor or are given to her. Usually just things life baby carrots, apples, etc. Penny was supposed to get some raw pork for dinner, but I forgot to take it out of the freezer. [:@]

My dogs diets are boring compared to the others!
Rose ate about 1 cup of Bil-Jac(surprisingly little since she is due to have puppies in a little over a week, but I just keep watching her weight).
Colton had 2/3 cup of EaglePack Duck and Oatmeal.
Both had water in it.  They also usually get a few spoonfuls of canned Eagle Pack on their food, but I forgot.  Oh, and they each snatched a Triscuit cracker that I dropped.

I found some packaged tripe at the grocery store. I read that even though it's called "green tripe" it's actually white.

That's bleached tripe.  Tripas.  Yum, great in sopa menudo.  Pho is good too.  But not very nutritious for dogs - it's a source of connective tissue protein and really that's about it.  "green tripe" is actually kind of brownish and smells like cow manure.  Roughly.  Actually, it smells like cow breath but I suspect most people wouldn't notice the difference between the how the front end smells versus the back end - it's practically equivalent.  It's cow stomach and "Green" tripe includes the contents of the stomach.

Brain is wonderful if you can get it.  It's a superior source of DHA, B vitamins (particularly B-12), and, hmmm, I think folate and biotin maybe?  A little goes a long way however.  It's very, very rich.  If I feed Ben a head, he goes outside about every two hours!  It's much better if you can get small animals and feed the whole thing together - the fur/feathers and other trashy stuff they consume balances the richness of the organs.

Thanks so much for your kind words about the puppers.  I'm very proud of how they give so much, even if we don't win prizes.  [sm=wink2.gif]

[:'(] I think I'll stick to dog food.  I am such a wimp when it comes to that stuff.  I don't even like touching raw meat.  I nearly threw up when cooking liver treats for my dogs.  They like them though!  I wish I wasn't so grossed out by it, but I am!  I can handle chicken livers now(no touching of course).

Gloves are great things, though I also just use those fold over sandwich bags for quick handling.  Cheaper.

I know a lot of vegetarians who feed their dogs this way.  Most of them agree that it's hard at first but you know, dogs eat raw meat - doesn't get more natural than that.  They prefer to feed their dogs humanely raised meat than meat in kibble, raised heaven only knows how.

But I can understand being squeamish.  For some reason I still have trouble cutting up kidney.  Ick ick ick.  And I get presliced liver whenever possible, if it's not my own or a custom order.

I bought the pre-sliced liver and I couldn't handle it!  It was all that blood.  And, the recipe called for it being put through the blender....well, it reminded me of this one part in Pulp Fiction.  I just didn't look at it until it was done being pureed.

Mercy, I didn't see that movie (never watch horror or even the gorier suspense movies).  But what an image, I can just imagine.  I don't blend, I have a grinder - now I have a whole new reason for that thing to creep me out!  [:o]  I don't grind organ meat though.

It's so weird, I can cut up a sheep or duck and it doesn't bother me.  But that really juicy meat does give me a turn.  [sm=crazy.gif]

Plain kibble for breakfast,  no topping at all.  For supper, Buck had his Purina One Senior and the girls had Puriina One weight control and all had canned salmon, unsalted canned green beans and carrot slices mixed it, plus thier sups--joint sups for Buck and KayCee, Cranberry cap for Buck, multivitim, EsterC Fish, Oil and Vit. E for all of them.  Tomorrow it will be calf liver boiled with  chopped sweet potatoes, pear, and frozen pesas & carrots for supper.

I had to cut up pre-sliced calf liver yesterday. It didn't bother me and I had to touch it a LOT because Ella only requires about an ounce a day. IMAGINE how small those pieces were! I also had to order a case of beef heart and I had NO clue what I was doing. At least they didn't look at me like I was CRAAAAAZY. What happen to the day of butchers down the street who were friendly and chatted with you while they got you your meat? My mom took me to the butcher's every Saturday when I was little. Now I have to go to the grocery store and HOPE that I find someone who knows what I want. The meat guy was telling me how he and his dad butchered all their own meat when he was younger and how he'd throw out buckets full of femurs and junk daily and how hearts and tongues WAY WAY WAY BACK used to be tossed out and now whatever can't be sold is shipped off to dog food companies. So, then we get on about dog food and he cringed. Anyway, so, I ordered a like a 40 lb. case of beef heart.
I got 5 lbs. of Berte's powdered sea kelp for Ella for $25 and change AFTER shipping and handling. Do you know how long that is going to last me???? Oh,like a year.
Anyway, for breakfast Ella will probably get a half pound of ground burger and an egg so that I can give her her kelp. Then for dinner she'll have a chicken leg quarter.

Oh,Ella munched on a soup bone yesterday. I can TOTALLY see a difference in her teeth since she's started on raw and she gets RMBs and recreational bones.

I just bought 60 lbs of beef heart for $41.54 + tax. 69 cents a pound.
I thought that was an OUTSTANDING deal.
That'll probably last me...at least 3 months, probably more.

My pup had his heaping cup of TWO kibble this morning. Mixed in with it was some sirloin cut up nice and small, and a dollup of yogurt. He eats better than I do! [;)]

Yea! This is great news Rebecca! [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]

My guys pretty much get 1 cup TWO Bison 3 times a day and I always mix in something with it. Usually their afternoon meal is a little bit of yogurt and their a.m. and p.m. meals are a couple tablespoons of crockpotted meat (today was chicken).  If I am out of the whole foods to crockpot I open a can of Evangers 100% chicken or beef instead. Mine get SOME variety every day, but not like some of the other pups on this thread with liver and tripe and brain! [:D]  Shhh...don't tell them that other dogs have parents who feed them these goodies! [:o]
