In our case, our dogs weigh around 50 or more pounds. I wouldn't know about a dog the size of yours, but I wouldn't think that 1 daily would be too much. From what I understand, there is no known toxicity level. I listened to an internet radio show a few weeks back.  It was an interview of a country Vet who runshttp://www.critteradvocacy.org/. On the show, he was recommending the same 500mg/400mg dose for dogs. So that is about 50-100mg per day. I think maybe that is for a dog with arthritis, or hip issues, etc. For "preventative" use, I think a half dose is ok (10 lb dog would get 125 mg or less) ? I don't know. But, that's what I do.
