Yogurt

I read somewhere that it's fine to give your dogs a little bit of lowfat yogurt. So, whenever I'm eating my strawberry/banana breyers yogurt, I'll give Dweezil like a teaspoonfull. But, after the whole thing about sweeteners killing dogs, I checked the label, and (duh) there's sugar added ... Does anyone else do the yogurt thing?

Sorry, hadn't seen the yogurt post below--but I don't think the sugar aspect was mentioned. But I'm assuming yogurt's fine...?

When we talk about yogurt, we're talking about plain, unsweetened, unflavored yogurt.

Sugar (in moderation) is fine, artificial sweeteners are not.

Could you guys explain the value of yogurt? Sorry to be so uninformed. Also, My little peke-pom seems to have a very sensitive digestive system. Any little change sets him off. Right now he is on EP Duck/Oats mixed with Solid Gold canned. He does pretty good, but today was a little upset. Is there something I can add to his food to ease that upset? My other two are doing GREAT on this combo...and he was too for a while

Bubblegum gets plain unsweetened yogurt every meal,,,,about a tablespoon.

I like whole milk yogurt like you can find in health food stores and some grocery stores now (yay!). Stoneyfield is one of my favorites too. I eat it too - sometimes plain, sometimes with a bit of fruit preserves.

Sammy eats yogurt and pumpkin, but not by itself. For example, pumpkin has to be mixed with a touch of kibble and yogurt as well or frozen in a kong, etc. For some reason he is not a fan of things like that by themselves..... but of course frozen yogurt/ice cream is just dandy!

People who do plain yogurt ... would the Dannon plain yogurt "no artificial anything" do? Dweezil seems to love it ... the ingredients listed are: Cultured Grade A Reduced Fat Milk, Pectin.

I feed both of my dogs yogurt every other day. I give them 2 really big table spoons. I use Dannon lowfat plain or vanilla.

Xylitol is the sweetener that is VERY dangerous for dogs.

I typically give just plain yogurt, and Stoneyfield is one of my faves too. I also like this YUMMO goats milk yogurt I get at my organic coop - Liberte'. Seems to have all KINDS of good stuff in it, and none of the bad.

For me, Liberte' makes a very yummy, VERY thick yogurt w/fruits - peach and passionfruit is OMG. If I remember Becca I'll bring us some to Edgeworth!

I buy either the plain or the lowfat plain in a large container - it seems to work well for Sammy. The only choices I have in the large container is Dannon or Stonyfield, and Dannon is more often cheaper.
