Fat free Yogurt??

• Fat free Yogurt?? Mike Posted : 9/30/2006 6:03:20 PM Hi everyone. Our 1-1/2 year Cavalier eats Science Diet small breed dry food. We got concerned about his choking on the food. We tried some dog gravy and that helped, but it is very high in fat. (these little guys can pack the weight on fast!) Would it be safe to mix a teaspoon of fat free yogurt in with his food? Or maybe some of you have a better suggestion. Thanks a bunch for any help. • glenmar Posted : 9/30/2006 6:14:40 PM I give my crew regular yogart.....they really don't need fat free since they use fats differently than we do.  You might want to look into some better foods tho. • Violetta Madej Posted : 9/30/2006 6:26:47 PM I agree with glenmar...vets don't get alot of training in terms of animal nutrition in vet school, and what's even more depressing is that these really junky dog food company, like IAMS, pays vets to advertise/suggest them to their clients.   If you have trouble finding cheaper high quality dog foods, as some really can get expensive, look into Wellness or Merrick..they are also good foods that aren't as expensive as say, Timberwolf Organics (I feed this food, and even though I pay more, my dog loves it!)   Either way, your dog will benefit from a high quality diet. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • glenmar Posted : 9/30/2006 6:37:48 PM Once upon a time, Wellness would have made my list.  However, about 2 years ago rumors started flying that Old Mother Hubbard was being sold/getting new investors and going more mainstream, ie: Walmart type distribution.  Whether or not that has happened, I don't know, but I've read a LOT of complaints about changes in formula, etc and pretty widespread dissatisfaction with the product.   Merrick has had ongoing quality control problems....big blue chunks of plastic ending up in canned food, not long ago the metal bands still on the chicken wings....and in the past contamination of both food and treats, so I wouldn't risk Merrick simply because there are soooo many GOOD companies out there. 0 LIKE Like Share You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. • chelsea_b Posted : 9/30/2006 7:18:25 PM If you have trouble finding cheaper high quality dog foods, as some really can get expensive, look into Wellness or Merrick..   I agree with Glenda about these two foods... I had my own problems with Wellness (my dog got really stinky on it, and also got a LOT of gunk on her teeth), but have never tried Merrick because of the things I've heard. But I wanted to mention that Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul is a pretty decent food for a really nice price. I just got my sister to switch her dog from Iams to it. She was looking at Eagle Pack, Natura's foods (couldn't find Healthwise), Soild Gold, etc., but they're just out of her price range right now, so Chicken Soup it is.
