    Premium Edge

I was at the local feed store today and came across this dog food which looks rather good for my dog. I've never heard of it but thought it might be worth a try because Nutro is just not working for my dog. Gizmo has a slight red tint to her skin which usally tells me there is something wrong with her food. I really need something with joint support like glucosimine, and Premium Edge seems to have that. The lady at the feed store told me that most owners seem to have good success with this brand and it's the best they sell. So I thought I'de post it on here before I buy a bag to see what all of you think

It's made by Diamond, but if that and the menadione don't bother you, I'd try it....

That looks OK - I'm pretty sold on Canidae Senior for my pupper with hip problems right now (he's on a low protein diet after his bout of pancreatitis).  I'll eventually switch him over to all-homeade in a few months but for now the Canidae has everything I want for him.  But the Premium Edge looks very similiar.

Really?  I thought it was made by Bench and Feild?  Maybe not?

It's Schell & Kampeter, same people as Diamond.

I've never tired Canidae and really don't know where to find it, I've never seen it in the stores.  I tried their store locator on their website and entered my area code but just got this:

I really don't know much about dimond, they sell it at the same feed store that sells Premium Edge.  I would not be surprized if it was from the same company.  I've given up with petco or petsmart for food, don't care for anything they have.  I've seriously thought about a home cooked only diet but am still hoping there is some kibble out there that is right for my dog.

it's impossible for them to put sufficient glucosamine in a dog food to really do your dog any good. I'd suggest buying and feeding a joint supplement instead.

I do go about join support in a holistic way for now, I feed yucca supliments, eventuly I'll make the swich to glucosimin but for now I prefer a food that has it in it so she can easaly adjust to it later.  I also want a food that is made for large dogs and had ingredience designed for larger breed.  Giz is on the small side of large dogs but she is very high energy and needs everything a large dog needs.

I think most of the ingredients look really good, the only thing I don't like is that it has 5 grains and menadione.

Well from what I can tell it's much better then the kibble I have her on now so look like I will make the swich starting tomarrow.  If it doesn't remove the redness from Gizzys skin in a few weeks then I might just have to go back to Eukanuba[:'(].  Sadly Eukabuba is the only food I've ever feed that doesn't make her skin turn red but I've been trying to advoide it.

It's definitely a big step up from Eukanuba! I hope it works for her.

I also suggest a supplement. I have found that Glycoflex works wonders with my Leela. It also has MSN and other really good ingredients. They have three levels (I, II, and III) depending on the severity of the problem. She is on III -- really bad hips. And instead of a food with glucosomine, I would recommend a grain free food. Something like Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. And there are others. From what I have learned from Leela, grains can be inflammatory. Yucca is good. So is EsterC, fish oil or salmon oil.
Let me know how you are doing.

Xebby have you tried Natural balance or blue buffalo? Both are available from petsmart.

You said you may have to go back to euk? Have you tried many/any of the super premium foods, and did none of them work?

    Xebby,

I had the same result when I tried to use the store locator on Canidae's website. I'm not sure what to tell ya, other than to maybe call the company?

Lucky for me, I know of a store that already sells it...the downside is that they are about an hour away [:(] and I sometimes get tired of the drive every 2 weeks.

Mudpuppy, what about Breeder's Choice Active Care. I know...it's grain loaded, but look at the glucosamine and chondroitin levels. They come from natural sources too.http://www.breeders-choice.com/dog_products/avoactivedog_lamb.htm
