found a great site to compare dog foods.

[linkhttp://www.topgoldenretrieversites.net/cgi-bin/database/db.cgi?tbl=DogFood&order_by=Brandname]golden retriever dog food ratings at Top Golden Retriever Sites - dog food dat[/link]a. lots of good info at this site.

The foods are user rated, and many foods end up with a higher rating than they should actually have. It's good to know what people think of a food, but I'd like to see some kind of system for rating other than opinion. Also, I don't understand why they don't have ingredients listed if it's supposed to help people researching foods.

yes it is rated by the consumer, but you have quite a few varietys of foods. and by some of the opinions I read, some dogs did have a sensitivey to poultry as I believe my dog has. so it is very imformative.

The only problem I have with user ratings sites is that someone may get on there and rate a wonderful food poorly, because their dog was allergic to it. That isn't a true reflection on the food.

    Exactly.

I totally agree Sooner that it is hard to get a full grasp on the food if it is user rating. Also, it depends on the number of ratings given.  I once was the first one to add "felidae" cat food to a site and I think it still has a 4.0 rating because I am the only one who has posted using it so far. Not very representative. .  .the comments sometimes help though.

I will say though that user ratings did helped me a lot narrow down to a few choices. I use to look at rateitall.com and you can see trends on stuff. For example, I learned that Wellness was giving lots of different pups bad stools and most of these people had been feeding for a long time and had no problems until they changed their formula.   I decided maybe to "steer clear" of that one for now.

I think they are useful in some ways, but limited in others. I keep thinking I am going to subscribe to the Whole dog journal, but I am not sure it is worth it. ???

Elizabeth. . .thanks for posting the link! I looked up a few foods I have fed on there![:D]

Your more than welcome jjsmom, i was only trying to help. Innova is a great food for some  dogs, just not mine. it gives jake runny poop. But I did give it a great rating. but from that site you can investigate more into the foods, simply by logging into the spectic type of foods your looking at.
    have a great day [:D]

I found it interesting as I read good and bad about many different foods.  It just goes to show that what works great for one may be very lousy for another. Of course all pet food companies are going to claim theirs is the best, be it Eagle Pack, purina, TWO, Ol Roy.  But in my opinion, people who see and know their are the ones that should tell how great or how lousy it was for THEIR DOG.  And I gotta say, goldens are notorious for allergies, so it was interesting ready about the different foods some had problems with.

I would love this site if it were just comments and not ratings, but the comments are really helpful! Thanks for mentioning it!
