labcrab, lol, I wasn't going to mention that on a new board as people may think we are crazy...but, yes, my Sister burps her Newf's after meals. She always gets a belch out of them. lol

Ok.. . . sorry. . .have to hijack the thread for a moment and ask! [sm=eek.gif]
Are these newf's that are burped pups or fully grown adult dogs????  Trying to visualize burping a big newfie!  [:D]

dogs seem to hold food in their stomachs for 8 to 12 hours after eating,

I've read they digest much faster than this, 5 hours.

    jjsmom06,
yes my Sister burps the full grown Newf's after each meal. She stands over them and vigorously rubs their belly until they belch. They are pretty good at belching quickly. I tried this with Athena my Rottie, but, never could successfully get a burp out of her.

Billy, I've heard DEEP chested but not BROAD chested breeds.

I rarely put water on kibble, but when Tyler had an abcessed tooth removed he needed the food soft.  I was impressed to see that Innova doesn't swell up with water, no matter how long it sits.

Timberwolf doesn't either. Must be a high grade kibble thing.

SO is it something specific about the breed then??  Good to know she isn't throwing them over her shoulder to burp them! [:D]

Perhaps this should be implimented into an anti bloat routine for prone breeds. My Sister can make a video to demonstrate. lol

haha, I'm sure nobody thinks you're crazy!!! You are highly knowledgeable on this (and MANY other) subjects and after previous discussions with you, I really think there is something to it. Plus, it's just too darned cute not to mention! [:D]

I'm house-sitting for someone who feeds Science Diet, no clue what formula cause it's not in the original bag, but it didn't swell up at all. It stayed exactly the same, but after about 20 minutes, as soon as I moved the bowl the food disintegrated completely. Don't know what that means [8|]

That is a shame that the brown and grey (I didn't even know they "came"in grey{" can't be shown.  Some times i do not agree with these rules for showing dogs.  And I sure didn't know there was a correct pattern to the black and white markings.  I think ANY markings are beautiful.  They are just beautiful dogs, period!

Ever since I heard of bloat I have heard not to let the dogs get active for at least an hour after eating.  I have read elevate the bowl, don't elevate the bowl, soak the food, don't soak the food, but I have never read that it was safe for the dogs to go active after eating.  I have noticed on animal shows that after eating almost every single animal lays around and naps.  My dogs like to take a nap after breakfast and supper (so do I).  I would think just to be safe, I would not get out and play retrieve or take my dogs swimming, etc for a while after they eat.  Better safe than sorry.
