I was reading the ingredients on that today at Petsmart...wondered the same thing myself!

If it works, it's good stuff.

Well I can tell you the food is pretty big, but it's not hard crunchy; it's easy to chew and I think that's why she's ok with it.  At least so far.. You can look at the food and see some of the ingredients in it.. Some you'll see pieces of cranberry, or tomato or whatever the red stuff is.. So far so good, I only bought a 5 lb bag to try it.. It's like half as expensive as blue buffalo which is a really good food too.

It is PetsMart's brand; I hope your dog does well on it.[:)]

What about natural balance and/or blue buffalo, they are both good foods. Do you have any of the smaller pet shops near you? As they tend to carry the better brands.

IMHO I wouldn't call this brand "good stuff".

I hope your dog does well on it.

I too hope your dog does well on it.

Natural Balance is a far better dog food and you can get it at Petco.  [linke.html>http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/home.html]http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/home.html[/link]e.html

If you decide to stick with Authority, they have a better line called something like Authority Healthy Harvest? It's kind of like Nutro Ultra. I think its a step up from the regular Authority and you should be able to get that at PetsMart too, beings that they make it! [:)]

I did get the "harvest baked"  I didn't realized they carried a lesser quality one...Is the harvest baked one good?

You're the one with the bag, you tell us. [;)] I can't find the whole ingredients list online. I found the first ten though.

    Chicken
    Whole Ground Wheat
    Whole Ground Barley
    Chicken Meal
    Canola Oil
    Carrots
    Salmon Meal
    Dried Egg Product
    Spinach
    Tomatoes

Better. Lots of grains, especially since the first ingredient is chicken, which is ;probably around 70% water, so once it's taken down to 10% moisture, the grains could easily be more prevalent. However, whole grains are better than grain parts, like brewer's rice, corn gluten meal, ground corn (which could be the whole grain, but may not be). Plus no "animal fat". Looks okay, overall.

ah very cool then! Nice to see that petsmart brand is good, and inexpensive!

I looked on the Petsmart website and below is the list of ingredients for Authority Harvest Baked (they only included the top 10 ingredients)

    Chicken
    Whole Ground Wheat
    Whole Ground Barley
    Chicken Meal
    Canola Oil
    Carrots
    Salmon Meal
    Dried Egg Product
    Spinach
    Tomatoes

The only real problem I see is that wheat is the 2nd ingredient. It's one of the most common allergens for dogs and isn't something that I think should be a staple of their diet. Having said that, I think the food is A LOT better than most of the choices at Petsmart. The only other ones I'd personally feed there are Blue Buffalo and Nutro Ultra...

Both my dogs (and my stray puppy) are all eating Authority food.  Tyson has been eating it since puppyhood (8 wks) and Goldie has been on it for 2 years.  Both are doing great and are very healthy.  Shadow is doing well on it also, he is 6 mo and is eating the adult version which has appropriate protein and calcium levels for large breed pups like him.  I really like this food, but again, it is whatever works for your dogs.  [:D]

sigh. which you have no idea of until your dog is older-- age seven is when most problems caused by cheap diets start to show up.

That said, Authority is not HORRIBLE. Their canned line is not bad for occasional feeding.
