The Noble Quest for Kinder and Gentler "Nutrition" Postings

Many just buy whatever has the lowest sticker price in the grocery store.

Many people do just that!!          However, many people buy the more  expensive OR most expensive food in the grocery store thinking that they are buying the very best for their pets. They don't know that grocery store pet food is not the very best for their pets even if its top of the line.

Christine - Petrol prices in Europe and Australia have historically been much higher than in the U.S.  We're spoiled in that regard.   I agree that consumer action has an impact on petrol prices but much less so than for many other industries (like cars).  It's almost like a utility  - you don't have much choice, particularly where they act in concert (as is often alleged).

As to making a profit versus caring about the customer, it's a spectrum, with some companies on one end (pure $) or the other (altruistic - typically they go broke!) and most somewhere in between.

By the way, Ron, which breeds other than Dobies have the taurine issue?

Sorry,i am atrocious at maths [:(] At your prices how much would you be paying per litre? Just so i can properly compare.
    • Gold Top Dog
A litre is smaller than a gallon, I'm pretty sure.  Ouch!

Edit - nope, I just looked it up!  I was all wrong.  1 gallon is 3.79 litres.

Edited again - nevermind.  I looked on this chart, but I can't figure it out.  Other sites say different stuff.  [linkhttp://www.teaching-english-in-japan.net/conversion/gallons]http://www.teaching-english-in-japan.net/conversion/gallons[/link]

I had a client come in the other day to drop his BIG lab off for a bath and I gave him a brochure for EP. When he came back in to pick his dog up, I gave him a sample. He came back the next day with his dog food label in hand and said "I had never read the label before, but just assumed that since the vet recommended it (and sold it in his office), it was a good food. Look here, it's got peanut hulls in it!". He proceeded to buy lots of EP. He was back today to get more AND buy his cats food!

I think many people are assuming they are doing what's best for their pets due to lack of understanding. It was, admittingly, a great feeling to help make a difference in a pets quality of life and a pet owners confidence in their feeding decisions.

    Christine, at 3.8 l in a gallon. we're paying about .67 / l  w/gas being on average about $2.55/gal

I paid $2.75 a gallon yesterday for gas. Something very depressing about putting $15.00 in gas in your car and it hardly making a difference.

I have a big 92 Cadillac and the only reason this gas price stuff hasn't killed my bank account is because I hardly go anywhere. My work is about 5 miles from my house, I take my college classes online, and try to do most of my errands at once so I'm not always running around.

Large and giant breeds can be susceptible to a taurine deficiency but they aren't exactly sure what levels are a problem, as dogs are usually able to synthesize taurine. I think being large or giant is a problem only because the body is not synthesizing a enough. Also, they're not exactly sure that dogs suffering from DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) are a result of taurine deficiency but dogs that are treated with it seem to do better. The two breeds most noted for it are Newfoundlands and Doberman Pinschers.

kennel keeper, this is kind of random (lol), but what kennel do you own or work at? I am familiar with the kennels in NC, mainly around the Raleigh area (if you don't mind me asking) [:)]
