Does he have dandruff with the scratching? He could have walking dandruff, which is actually very treatable. Revolution would take care of this, your vet would have to do a skin graph to test for this. Have it checked, if he has this, you have to treat your other dog too.

That is good.  You can switch a puppy over in a week, I don't think it would be a problem. How old is Cinnabun?
    • Gold Top Dog
wow some breeders dont have a clue.

Start his switch over gradually. Ihope you can get him off this food quickly!

    A week... oh boy. [&o] He's 10 weeks and 1 day old.

If you want to do a transition,do it as quickly as possible as the less time spent on that food, the better!
Personally,i would'nt bother at all,i would put him straight onto the new food.I've never fed what the breeders have,i've always started them on the food i wanted to feed from day one.

If it is a puppy I would do it slow, a few days on that kibble is not a big deal that's what it's been weaned on, if it is a pup it will be going through a lot of stresses dealing with it's new environment, no need to add another to it.

Oh boy! Coccidia,i can see why you're worried. Maybe just do it over a week then,by then he should be settled enough to be able to handle a full food change. Like i said,i've always done it straight away and have never had a problem.Granted,i have been extremely fortunate with my dogs when it comes to food and changes and such,i've never had a dog with a dodgy tummy(except if they've eaten something rank) and all have handled any food changes without blinking an eye,so it is hard for me to advise the gradulal transition of 200 weeks and 10% of this and 90% of that [;)][:D]

Thanks Edie, it sounds like I'm going to need to wait at least a week.... I was reeeaaally hoping for some way to get around it, but apparently that way doesn't exist. [&:] Ah well, thank you everyone for your advice!! [:)]

Anyway, Cinnabun has been eating Purina "healthy" morsels at his breeder's (it's a rainbow colored food)

No offense meant here, and I'm sure there's a reason, but why did you buy from a breeder that feeds such awful food? I'm really not trying to be snide or judgemental, I'm just honestly wondering because you're obviously well-informed in dog nutrition.

Luvntzus; I think you should change his food gradually because he is under a lot of stress with adjusting to a different environment. You may not want to stress his body by forcing it to adjust to a completely different food all at once. JMO

I would add a little yogurt in with the food "blend" while switching him over. That should help somewhat in the transition.
What are you switching him too?
