Nutro dog food

In another post, the original poster admits that she didn't particularly care for Nutro but is feeding it because her preferred food, Canidae, is not readily available where she lives. As for expense, what I feed is costing me about 88 cents per pound, on average. I may pay $32 to $36 for a 40 pound bag. I buy the largest bag because it means less trips to the store and anything has a lower unit cost or price per pound if you can buy in bulk.

Pretty much any Nutro thread is a complaint about price and grain. It would have been a little more direct to label this thread, "I don't like Nutro but it's all I can find locally." I drove 80 miles round trip to get Shadow the Innova I tried him out on, at over a $1 a pound. If he had done better on it, I would continue to get it, regardless of price, if I had to have it delivered or shipped.

And those are my two tarnished pennies.

I have mine on Nutro Natural Choice large breed and they are doing very well. Nutro is the highest quality I can get within a 30 mile radius. I know I can get better quality food elsewhere for the same price, but a 60 mile round-trip hikes up the price quite a bit. So for us, it's either Nutro from the feed store or Science Diet from the Vet. Seriously, the first pet store to carry Wellness within 30 miles JUST opened up this summer! Actually, before I had kids to haul around, I tried my pups on Canidae, Eukanuba, Eagle Pak and other brands and Nutro seems to be as good or even better then many of the other brands. My Dalmation did the best ever on Eukanuba Low Residue for his colitis, and it's quite high in grain. I believe for him, good fatty acids is the key to a nice coat and good health.

My sister is a serious dog food snob and has her four on Nutro Ultra now. She has ordered from mail order, and bought just about every specialty food and read every book and online article and really feels that there is a point of diminishing return with premium dog foods. Good quality ingredients is very important, but at some point "Human Grade" and "Organic" and other things that are nice, really don't make as much of a difference in the long run as a basic food that is high in meat and low in grains and has a good quality fat. She see's no difference in her Golden, Rat Terrior & 2 Danes on the Nutro than she did when they were on Chicken Soup.

I hate to say it but some dogs will THRIVE on mid-grade foods. My last dog lived a very long and healthy life on Pedigree and Science Diet. Can't argue that...[&:]

Feed what your dog does well on...especially one they enjoy eating! That's the most important thing. [:)]

For some reason, Twin, I thought you were a guy. I'm sorry that I assumed that. Maybe I caught something masculine about your posts, er...or something. I have NO idea.[:D] Anyway, people ALWAYS think I'm a guy because of how I post.

I don't think it's that, I just never heard any or saw any girly type posts from you. A lot of the women here either talk about a DH or their man or have a girly type avatar or signature with pink and purple in it that tell me that they're women. I shouldn't assume either way, really.[:)]

I guess I like to keep things "strictly professional" ... he he. [:)]

That's alright, I've thought guys were girls and vice versa on here a number of times. I guess no one really knows unless its obvious. I guess I just spend so much time talking about my "boy" (puppy) that I just never have time to talk about my "real" boy (boyfriend). Maybe they need to come up with a boyfriend.com or husband.com...that would be HILARIOUS! [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]
