    Favorite Treats

Hi everyone.  I am new here and this Forum seems to be a great resource for answers.  So, my question is: what are you favorite treats?  Please keep in mind, my dog is totally spoiled!

I am always looking for yummy & healthy treats for him.

    Thanks for your help!

My girls love carrots!  Actually, they love anything (labs [:D]), but I give them carrots more than anything else.  They especially love frozen carrots.

My guys are spoiled too. . . imagine that. . . spoiled dogs on a dog forum???  [:D]

Here is a list of the different things they like:[:)]

Old Mother Hubbard mini liver cookies
    lamb lungs
"bellyrubs" Organic  freeze dried chicken liver dog treats
    Merrick brand "Texas Toothpicks"
Natural Balance dog treats (all flavors)
    Canidae snap biscuits
    Bully Sticks

As an FYI- For safety reasons I personally don't feed rawhide, pig ears, greenies or "cooked" bones.  I always watch my guys eat the texas toothpicks and bully sticks.

Our favorites - Snackfish, EVO treats, dehydrated chicken, lamb trachs, and Granola Hide.

Kelly - you are the queen of links [:D]!!  Those Snackfish look interesting and probably safe for my allergy girl.  Do you order them online or buy them somewhere locally?

What can I say, I'm weird about references [&:]

I love that company, their wet food is great too. It isn't available locally here, but they are based in California and I think in some stores there. I've had nothing but excellent experiences with ordering from them, and they have a frequent buyers program that gives a pretty good discount - but [linkhttp://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/Ifex-Snackfish-Dog-Treats/192001.aspx]Only Natural Pet[/link] is quite a bit cheaper upfront.

I'll second the snackfish. Love the company. Great CS. Easy to order from. Good treats. The salmon oil REEKS, but they LOVE it![:'(]

Solid Gold Lamb Jerky is the only treat Gingerbread gets since he has allergies. It's soft/chewy and smells so good I want to eat it!

    Wysong-Dream Treats-all Meat
    Belly-rubs-Lamb,Chiken Liver
    Etta Says-all meat freeze dried
    • Puppy
Raw meaty bones and bully sticks for long time chews.

I also use the Natural Balance rolls (beef & turkey) as daily treats, but by far, the all time favorite around here is Bah Bah Qs (lamb lung).  The cheapest place I've found it is [linkhttp://www.petguys.com]www.petguys.com[/link] for about $11+ per bag.  Occasionally they run a 30 day sale for $9.99 and I usually stock up then.

Now I'm off to check out the Snackfish.

I hear alot on here about treats, but haven't heard of ANYONE  who dehydrates the canned foods to use as treats. This is GREAT for dogs with "sensitivities" and the dogs love it! We have a few that board with us that can't have ANYTHING treatwise, but after talking to a few clients, we have decided that these "treats" are wonderful! They are cost-wise, easy to make, and very well accepted by the dogs!

Once made, you need to keep them in the fridge, but if you only make enough for a week, then there is usually no problem with "freshness"

Actually, I've posted something similar.  When I did the elimination diet of pork & buckwheat for 12 weeks, I was desperate for something for a treat.  I took uncooked, but browned buckwheat and ground it into a flour consistency.  I mixed that with ground, cooked pork and buckwheat and made little rounds and baked them.  They were like crunchy cookies and Sassy loved them.  I made them in large batches and froze some and refrigerated some.  I should try that with the dry and canned duck & potato.  It'd probably be great.  Thanks for the idea.

It's really easy to do! You just used the canned version of the food your dog is on (ie: NB Duck...) spread a thin layer (1/4" thick) on a lined cookie sheet and make score marks in little squares into the layer. Bake at 350 until firm (not crispy, about 20 minutes). Once it's cooled, break the pieces up and store in a zip lock with grains of uncooked rice (to keep it dry).
The dehydration process concentrates the flavors and the dogs really LOVE it!

    Happy cooking!

Wow- that is easy.  I'm going to try that tomorrow.  Poor Sassy has only been getting carrots for treats cause the NB Duck & Potato treats are ridiculously expensive.   She sends her "thanks" in advance [:)]
