(moved this to another thread because I felt like I was taking over someone elses) Beniful

I think it was a good idea for you to switch in my opinion off of beniful. They add all the food coloring for the costomers eye, it just can't be good!

I did do that at least. Right now I have her on maxximum and I was told that is a little better. I am not rolling in the bucks and I can't feed her a 20 dollar or more food. I am trying my best to find something but, for now she is on Maxximum I intend to supliment it and just do that until this bag runs out. After that I will try to find something better.

I promise you, that the increase in price for the premium foods will be made up for when you're not having to replenish the food supply as often because she doesn't require as much of the premium foods as she will on the Beneful or others.

Having said that, I still believe you should feed what your doggie will eat.

    ORIGINAL: BaileyIsMyStar

    No feed stores around here.

I just want to say, from personal experience, that by using the store locators on some of the food sites you may find feed or pet stores around you that you didn't even know existed, or places like vets and groomers that you didn't know sold food that do.

Where there's a will, theres a way [:)] If you really want to feed a super premium food you'll find it [:)] There are some foods in my dogs rotation that i have to drive an hour each way to get. IMHO going that extra mile when it comes to our dogs nutriton is so worth it [sm=wink2.gif]

I dont want to sound like a cheep you know. I intend to look around and do the best I can Bailey deserves that. I have looked around on sites for them to tell me where I can find some of the foods you guys mentioned but, I have not had a lot of luck so far. I want to let everyone know I am doing the best I can. I am a college student and low on funds. I don't mean to say that I am going to feed her low grade food all the time but, I am going to see what I can do and give her the best I can give her. It may not be the very best of the very best but, I do intend to find something that I can afford and will be good for her. I wonder if I could keep feeding her Maxximum  (or what ever I find after this pacakge is all eaten )and then supliment it with other good foods on my own? Would that be a good idea?

Bailey i can tell you're doing the very best you can.I'm sorry if my posts probably made it sound like i was accusing you otherwise [X(]

I think fresh food additions are a great idea, whether you're feeding a low, medium or high grade kibble, but even more crucial if you're feeding the first 2.The best kibble in the world is still a processed packet food, void of life giving enzymes and fresh vits/mins etc that just can not replace fresh wholesome produce.

The best thing i can advise you to add is raw green tripe,it is a wonderful, wonderful addition to any diet, but especially a commercial one.If you cant find fresh raw tripe, the next best thing is the canned.Solid gold do a version, and there is also trippett.

Thanks Eddie. Don't worry about it. I have a lot going on in my house and one of the worst thing for the past 2 years or so is having my grandmother with alzhimers (sp?) living with us. If I ended up sounding a bit stressed out that is why. I know you guys know I love Bailey. Why would I ever even come to this site so often if I didn't? Lol

I have to drive 30 minutes to get food for my dogs... they are on Timberwolf Organics and Wellness.  Now, Walmart is about a mile away from me, but when it comes to my dogs, I do not do what is convenient.

With a super premium holistic food, you feed a smaller amount to your dog than you would with a low range food such as Beneful or Maxximum nutrition.  I know that if I fed my 7lb dog Beneful, he would eat almost 1 cup of food per day... with TO, he only eats 1/4 cup.  The 4lb bag does cost $9, but it lasts for a month because of the small amount of food he eats.  $9 is a small amount of money to keep my dog healthy.

I know that many many dog food companies will ship their foods right to your door.

I know that you love your dog, and most of us were unaware of what to feed our dogs in the beginning.  When I first bought Madison, I bought a bag of Eukanuba puppy because I was always told that it was the best food.

I just started using the TW Organics as well. I only ordered a small bag, to find out if they would like it. Now that I know they love it, I ordered 2 more small bags. Their shipping was super fast. When I ordered the first bag, I got it in like 3 days, counting the day I ordered it.

**Edited to add: I just ordered 2 more small (4 lb.) bags yesterday, and my shipping was free. The total for the order was only $20.98 and that includes shipping! You may want to look into ordering online. I am sure most of the premium foods can be shipped to you at little or no charge.

The funny thing is because Maxximum said it was super premium. Someone here told me to look for a dog food where the first ingrediant listed is an actual meat. That was why I picked Maxximum. Oh well I have some issues with the pet stores around here but, there is one place I might be able to try.

Jessie - I feed all of my dogs (just not Bailey) Eukanuba while they were puppies. They also all ate pedagree sometimes sort or hard. I am glad to know there is better stuff out there but, pedagree has kept at least 4 of my  dogs going for at least 13 years.

People always say, "well, my dog lived to be 20 on Pedigree"... but maybe he could have lived longer on a better quality food.

Pedigree, Beneful, Kibbles-n-bits, etc, are just like McDonalds... you can live off of McDonalds for your entire life, but will you be healthy?

I don't think that Eukanuba is a good food either... it is an overpriced food which uses not so good ingredients.

Wasn't trying to offend. I was simply saying what I have seen myself. I have said it quite often on this thread. I am doing the best I can. Do I live off of fast food? No. Do I live off of high end premo food? No. I live in the middle sometimes good stuff sometimes bad stuff. For Bailey I am going to get the best thing I can find according to all the links everyone has given me and the best I can afford. I hope to find something that will work for us [:)]

Oh! I just wanted to add your dogs are adorible especially Chloe! Oh what a face!

That super high end pet store just might carry some great dog food, and it's not likely to be horribly expensive. Last time I checked, Beneful was pretty pricey. My dad got some last week. It was $1.50 on sale for their "canned" food (it was in a little tupperware container) and the dog wouldn't even eat it, LOL.

When I was buying dog food, I drove 40 minutes to the most ridiculous pet store around, and paid $30 for 15 pounds of Natural Balance. It lasted two months.

Your dog might live for 20 years on Beneful. My grandmother is 70, smokes heavily, drank heavily for most of her life, and just beat lung cancer (STILL SMOKING!). That doesn't mean that it's a good idea to smoke and drink excessively. My grandmother will probably see 100. It's not because of her nasty habits (her diet is foul, even by the lowest of standards, she lives on Twinkies and ice cream!), it's her genes and the fact that she's a nasty old woman and nothing bothers her.
