    She didn't like Canidae kibble . .

Anyone here given their dog Canidae? We got through the 40lb bag but she got sick of it and we had to doctor it up to make it taste good enough for her to eat...Now i'm looking for a new food.. Has anyone given their dog Canidae and the dog didn't like it? If so, what did you switch to that your dog liked? The lady at the health store suggested Eagle Pack.. I have a boxer/pitt mix and she said a lot of people are giving their boxers Eagle Pack...any input?

My dog didn't like Canidae either.  Good food, but what can you do.  I have a friend who's also on this forum that feeds her pit mix Nature's Variety and has had great luck with it. She's tried Canidae and her dogs coat became flaky on it.  She also had good luck with Solid Gold Wolf King, but she can feed less of Nature's Variety because it is more nutrient dense.

well I just busted open one of the sample packs of the Eagle Pack Chicken the lady gave me and she's eating it so maybe this is a winner... either that or she's eating it because it's new lol

I have a pit mix and think I'm going to be switching over in a week or so to Nature's Variety.

Roxie didn't like Canidae, either.  I liked its ingredients, though.

Of the EP forumlas, I suggest the fish one -- only if you can tolerate the smell.  Otherwise, it's gross.  Your dog may like the duck formula, though.  Roxie didn't ... I see a trend.  LOL!

ETA: The only reason I suggest the hideous-smelling fish forumla is because Roxie snarfed it down without thinking twice.  I don't like that I would have had to feed her more of it, compared to the other EP holistic lines ... and ... it has a raunchy stench.  Have I mentioned its vomit-inducing odor?

Some dogs aren't big eaters.  Mine isn't.

You are following the feeding instructions right?  Not to say that your an idiot, but from working in pet supply retail I can tell you that many of fussy dogs, weren't fussy, just full.  But the dog's dumb owner thought the dog should eat when ever food is put in front of it.

While others won't agree with me on this, I have a theory that dogs go through a toddler stage like humans.  Where they are fussy.  Mine went through it and I know of many other dogs that did too somewhere between 6 months to 2 years.

haha, well, before I went to the natural products store, I went to petsmart and picked up a 5 lb bag of the new blue buffalo food, fish and sweet potato recipe...STRONG fishy smell, and it gave her gas.. but she liked it lol, can't tolerate that gas though, so it's gotta go back.... The lady also gave me a sample of the EP duck kind.. she said it's really good food but HER dogs can't be on it because it gives them gas lol

Interesting thought there.. I do follow the guidelines.  When she was on the Canidae, 2 cups per day was fine, one cup in the morning, one at night.. But she is only a year, or perhaps less so maybe she's in the stage you're referring to, being fussy about the food...I would just say screw it and not feed her if she doesn't eat, but then if her stomach is empty she does the puking up stomach bile thing... Many people have told me to just take the food away if she doesn't eat it till the next feeding time, but I don't want to be cleaning up yellow throw up on the white carpet often...

While I would highly recommend Nature's Variety because of the success other pit mix owners have had on it. Here are some other foods that I've found fussy dogs like...

    Chicken Soup
Royal Canin (they make a boxer formula for boxers that genetically have sensitive tummies)
Pro Plan (try the others first, they have better ingredients)
Eagle Pack Chicken Holistic (this one was not as well excepted as the others mentioned, but most dogs will eat it.)

My dog wouldn't touch Canidae, literally wouldn't even eat around it if I mixed it in with his old food - and he's about as far from a picky eater as you can get. I figured he just doesn't like lamb, because the only other food he didn't love was lamb-based. Instead of haphazardly jumping from food to food, think about protein sources. If your dog loved the fish based food, try adding probiotics to help digestion, or choose another fish-based food maybe.

I use to feed Canidae (but had to stop due to food allergies so now I feed Pinnacle). I personally had good luck with every dog I fed on Canidae but I also really liked Nature's Variety and Innova EVO (they now have red meat formula too so this may have more flavor than the original which has Turkey and Chicken).
