Fish Oil, OMG!

    Fish Oil, OMG!

So, after the rave reviews of Fish Oil, I decided to try it.  One month later, WOW!!!

My girls coats are SO SHINY!  I had 3 people yesterday, alone(!) comment on how sleek, shiny and soft they are.   I swear to you, I wouldn't have beleived it if I hadn't seen it.  I had thought they already had lovely coats, feeding RAW and Solid Gold, I thought things were great.  I was wrong.

    Next stop, Vitamin E.

Try it if you haven't.  The fact that  my girls turn their nose up at some "yummy" things (moody little creatures!) and the $30+ US ;per bottle raised my eyebrow, but my God it lasts forever.  And both girls would suck the thing dry if I let them [:D

Anyway, I just had to share for any disbelievers out there [:)]

I've seen great results with fish oil too.
We started using it to clear up her coat due to some skin allergies, and EVERYONE who meets her says how shiny her coat is. She's so soft and smooth.

And to let you know, they do sell fish oil supplements with Vitamin E added to them. That way you don't have to spend so much on getting separate supplements[;)]. We got a bottle of a 180 gel caps of the fish oil with vitamin E for $23. I thought that was expensive, but apparently, that's a decent price.
    We got ours at Petco.

After our camping trip I am picking up some fish oil and VitE for my dober-brats. I can't wait to see the results on Macy's thin, blue coat. [:D]

It's made a world of difference for my pup!! Everyone always comments on how glossy and soft his coat is :) (I've been giving him a "combo cap" of fish oil, seed oils and vitamin E since I got him at 6 months).

Grats on the improvement! Very exciting :)

Oh, and it'll help thicken her coat, believe me.
Ella is a pitbull and they have similar coats to dobes and she had thin spots on her and now the hair has grown back.
Your dogs are so pretty, especially your blue girl.
I want a blue and red dobe so bad.

Can I buy Fish Oil at a human Vitamin Store? Everyone who visits comments on how soft her coat is, and its got a bit of shine but if I can get it shinier than I would love to buy it!

I believe you should be able too. But I don't know what or if there's a difference between what humans would take compared to dogs. Maybe you can go and it'll say on the bottle: "if giving supplement to pets...".
You could try calling vitamin stores and asking.[:)]

I have a 13 yr old Shih Tzu that has always had skin problems.  Do you think vitamin E and fish oil would help him.  How much would I give him?  He weighs 15 lbs.  I'll have to ask Dr. Pitts about this.  I have learned so much since I joined this forum.  Thanks all!

Prince's coat is so full and shiny since switching him to Innova EVO - I mean I can't get over how soft it is. And Macy's coat has improved quite a bit in the short time that we had her (also on EVO) so I'm really excited to see what fish oil/vitamin E does

Since Ive started I push the supplements on everyone I talk to lol.  SeraJ get you some vit E, it needs to go with the fish oil. Glad it worked for you!  My aunt had Lucy on Walmart food, she didnt even know what kind...[8|], until I got on her case about it all.  Shes been on vit E, A and fish oil (and Innova) for about 3 weeks now and she keeps telling me how crappy she feels about before.  I keep saying TOLD YOU!!  [:)]

Of course! Fish oil is fantastic, for everyone, humans and pups alike.

The dosage for dogs is 1000 mg per 30 lbs of healthy dog, 1000 mg per 20 lbs of itchy/flaky dog, and 1000 mg per 10 lbs of chronically ill dog.

Willow just really likes fish oil so I give her one capsule a day.  It's fish body oil.  What vitamins should I also be giving with it?  I give her a multivitamin but don't I need extra something else with it??

Those of you that give fish oil capsules- how does that work? Do you put it in their food and they just eat it, or do you have to hide it in something like cheese?

Just curious because I have a bottle of fish oil capsules and giving them to Gingerbread is kind of a pain. They're HUGE pills for his size, so he would never just eat it. The other day I punctured one of the pills and then squirted it on his food... that was a pain though and very messy. I wonder if I'm missing some kind of easy solution here (besides buying something like Grizzly Salmon oil that comes with a pump- not in the budget right now)...

.. clearly I was a disbeliever, which is why I had to share.  Because of that I had to share my results for all the others who don't truly believe [:D]  I'm like you, now, Amy.  I tell *EVERYONE* about Fish Oil.  Thanks for the idea of the Fish Oil/Vit E&A supplement, I'll look for that.  In the meantime I'll grab some Vit E to add in.

Ladies, once you try fish oil, you'll be screaming it from the rooftops, too.  Your dogs coats will go from looking good to incredible.  I promise, it's like magic!  I can't wait to see some your dobers coats, Prince! I bet Lizzie is going to shock you with her new coat. You may want to give it a little longer since collies coats are so much longer, but then again that's just something I made up.  Who knows!

Pip, I'm not an expert, but I"m sure the supplements will help.  What food do you your feed your 'tzu?  My dog had hot-spots and skin problems until I figured out she had wheat/corn allergies.  I don't want to pry, but I thought it was worth suggesting.  I have learned and continue to learn more than I can remember here, too! :o)

Willow, they were saying on another thread that Vit E is necessary when feeding fish oil.  I"m not sure if the multi-vit is a good enough source.  Hopefully somone else does, though!  [:D]
