    Thought Beneful Bad..Look at this..

I saw the little ad for this on Yahoo this morning. Here is the ingredient list for Naturally Complete from Purina.

OK????. . .it's much better than Beneful. . .what's the problem with it?
    • Gold Top Dog
I agree its better than Beneful, its grain heavy but it also has chicken meal, and beef which Beneful does not have.

The only trace of "meat" in Beneful is the Chicken by-products [:'(]

If it wasnt for the by-products it would be horse feed...lol

    , its grain heavy

Ugh. . .I would love it if someone would come up with another reason why a food isn't "good".  It's always this.

well willowchow, that's often the only reason a food is not "good". When the first ingredient is corn, or the first five ingredients are all grains, that's not good.

well i say thats a pretty good reason..
dogs are not built to digest grains..most kibbles are made up of more than 50% grains..dogs are carnivores, they have no need for grains, corn and all that other crap[/blockquote]

I'm very impressed with it for being under the Dog Chow name. It's tons better than Beneful.
    • Gold Top Dog
Ooops. I am sorry. I saw how much grain was in it and thought it was a bad food. Shows how much I was really paying attention. So sorry.

I saw the ingredient list and was thinking about allergic dogs. This would make several of them sick.

    Don't take offense but....
Oh please that statement funny or not is asinine...I wouldn't feed my horse garbage.  Come on now!   Corn is a filler in most feeds.  I don't feed my horse corn.  Corn in high quantities is not good for horses, can cause colic. Maybe it would be more fitting for swine.[;)]

I obviously dont own horses, lol. But think about it this way, if you wouldnt feed it to your horse that is a herbivore why would you (not technically you) feed it to a dog that is a carnivore? I cant believe I was so clueless as to actually think I was doing Lizzie good.

But any who I saw the bag for Naturally Complete and let me tell you I think that one will sell as much or more than Beneful, the bag looks oh so tasty...lol

Well, I guess you just try to do the best for your dog with the options available to you and your dog.
I believe I read on here someplace on this forum that dogs are omnivoires.  Mainly a meat diet and some veggies.  I believ that those that feed raw feed meat and veggie.

    I hear your points though.

According to science that goes a smidge farther than the taxonomic classifications that were set in the 1800's, dogs are omnivores.

    GOODY, another carnivore/omnivore debate! [;)] Need I say more[sm=proud.gif]

Personally, I think that this food could be much worse (kibbles n bits, alpo, etc for example). Granted, I wouldn't even consider it personally, but if someone was picking up a bag of Alpo in the dog food aisle, I would tell them to try that instead. It is at least a step up and a move in the right direction. Who knows, maybe the first in a move toward BETTER nutrition for someones animal, who didn't know better before.
