Ok.. here goes. There is NO bison in Serengeti Felid. I'm not sure about the Wild n' Natural because I've never seen a bag. The website says NO.The ingredients on the website are now different than the ingredients on the bag I'm holding in my hand right now. and it is showing both formulas as identical ingredients but the GA is different. It states 36% protein for Wild n Natural and 38% protein for the Serengeti. Everything else is identical. The website states::
Chicken meal / chicken / chicken fat , low ash salmon meal, potatoes , sardine/mackerel/anchovy/tuna oils , egg, chicken liver, dried whole milk, whey extract, alfalfa leaf, .........
The bag in my hand states :
Bison, Chicken Meal , Brown Rice, Chicken Fat, Barley, Low Ash Salmon Meal, Potatoes, Flax Seed , Sardine/Mackerel/Anchovy/tuna oil, Eggs, Dried chicken liver, dried whole milk, whey extract, Kelp, Alfalfa leaf........
These ingredients don't match ANY of their formulas. When I asked about the Bison I was told there was NO bison in Serengeti.
Over a month ago I printed out all the ingredients for each formula when I put together the info for my sales presentations. The Serengeti states the same as it does on the website now and never did contain amaranth. Neither did Wild n Dry.
As far as the 4# bags. who knows ? It can depend on what batch they are and how much the ingredients were at the time of production. Maybe the cases were from a different batch and the ingredients cost more or less than the batch of single bags. Hey... I've gone to TJMaxx and bought two of the identical products at two different prices. Their logic.... they came in different shipments, bought at different times so the cost and therefore the sale prices are not the same.
You'll never see $3 and $4 bags of TO again. In fact they are going to completely phase out selling retail from their site as soon as all their distribution centers are set up. Case pricing and individual pricing have little to do w/one another and if you watch, the prices of the formulas change constantly according to how much they have to pay for ingredients and how much product is in stock. Alot of times I don't buy certain items because the wholesale and retail price on the site is identical. Somtimes the wholesale price can be as little as 1/4 of the retail price. Every week it changes. So when the price is low, I buy alot, when it's high, I either don't buy at all or buy much less. It all evens out for me in the end.
Actually the price of TO on Petfood Direct is below retail on most items. They're selling some items at cost and I don't know how they're making any money on it. Actually as a competitor I find their prices TOO low. They are using TO as a loss leader because they know it's popular. They sell below retail to bring in other business for items they have a higher markup on that sell less. They always have discounts on shipping or off the product. As a matter of fact a few days ago, the 16th to be exact , they were offering 22% off all petfood for 24 hrs. There are also coupons and promotion codes listed on different websites as well.
I was just on the website. They've restocked the Lamb/Barley and Black Forest
and just for example it costs MORE for me to buy a case of 4# bags of lamb then to buy them individual. I can't buy Black Forest individual bags because the wholesale price is the same as the retail price... $8.99. Also the 16.5 lb bags of Serengeti are now $26.99 both retail and wholesale and last week they were $8 and $12.
Oh... btw. I just opened a 16.5 lb bag of SF for my cats. There are NOT two kinds of kibble in it like the 3.3# bags. The kibble is all one kind, very dark and tiny pellets as opposed to the bigger pellets and the round flat kibbles.
