Purina Beneful?

If Purina or Beneful (or heck, even Old Roy!) is working for you continue feeding it! If you try Beneful and she does well on it continue feeding it, wouldn't want anyone to tell you that you were pressured by an internet site to feed 'high quality food' I was told to feed a higher quality food (I fed Beneful and Lizzie LOVED It!) and after researching I switched to a better food, which she isn't doing good on. I was then told that I was 'junior highish' because I was 'pressured' into feeding a higher quality food.

So there really isn't a way to please some people, if you want to feed Beneful go ahead, it all depends on your pups needs, and even if you wanted to please them, some people will find something to ridicule anyway!

That post wasn't even in response to you.

I know it wasn#%92t in response to me I am just letting the OP know that he/she should not be “pressured” into a high quality food. If he wants to make the switch fine, if not fine also, some people will got on his/her case no matter what he/she feeds so they can just do what works.

True, you don't have to feed anything we suggest. But, it may improve your dog's health in the long run (which is what you want, right?)

Definitely what I want! I guess im still sore because it was suggested thati was ‘pressured#%92 into switching foods and therefore immature. I would do ANYTHING to make my dog healthy, but with the OP, if they cant get their dog to eat anything, I don#%92t think it would be bad to feed a low quality kibble, so long as they are eating.

I know the Exclusive is not going so well for you lizziecollie. Thats a bummer. Maybe try something else?? There is more than one way to upgrade from Beneful. I know it can sometimes take several different brands to finally find one that "works" for your dog. Same goes to the OP.
I know from personal experience that Jetta does not do well on certain brands of food. And I noticed it right away and switched. Right now I pretty much have a list of foods that work for her and ones that don't.

Okay, how old is you puppy, Newt?  I ask because dogs around the ages of 5 months to 2 years are naturally fussy. They go through a toddler stage just like humans.  My dog did it and I know several other dogs that did as well.

Please don't even try Beneful.  Dogs will not starve themselves unless they have something medically wrong with them.  Your dog will like Beneful because it contains sugar and lots of salt.  Would you feed your child sugar and salt for every meal?

Royal Canin, which is available in Canada, makes a Mini line for small breed dogs.  Small breed dogs tend to be fussy because dogs test food with their noses and small breed dogs have smaller noses and, therefore, can not smell the meat as well as the big breeds.  Royal Canin Mini coats the kibble in chicken liver to make the food smell better for the small breeds.  It also comes in really small kibble.

Chicken Soup is also well loved by fussy dogs.  I don't know if you can find that though.

One more thing.  This is what I did when my Jo Jo went through his fussy stage.

I'd give him his portion of food and leave it till it was gone.  I didn't coddle him or hand fed him.  I left it until it was gone.  Usually by his next feeding time it would be gone, but he certainly didn't eat it all in one sitting.

Also make sure you are following the feeding instructions on the food.  I've found that some people fill the bowl every time its empty and then at the end of the day when the dog is full and doesn't eat anymore they think the dog doesn't like his food.

Have you tried Hill's Science diet? It's very nutritious,

    Who told you that? [&o]

Lizziecollie were the junior high and pressured comments made on the boards here? If so,which thread?

You have other foods available to you besides exlusive, dont you? Most any food is better than beneful, this food should never be recommended if the health of the dog is of any importance... I can find alot more to ridicule about beneful, than i could foods such as Timberwolf, innova etc[8|]

Just for the record.......I've never had a fussy eater, regardless of their age.  It is not inevitable that all pups will go through a fussy stage.

Glenmar, you really have it out for me don't you.  You have attacked every post I've made for week now since that diabetic debate.  My vet has told me and also noticed this while working at the pet supplies store, that many dogs (not all) go through todler stages.  Mine did and apparently my vet noticed that alot of other pups do too.  I guess just like all children do not go through a fussy toddler stage, but most do.

So excuse me for not saying that not all dogs go through a fussy stage.  I was generalizing.  Further I said "naturall" that doesn't necessarily mean "all dogs."  Give me a break! Please.

Huh?  What the heck did I do?  I was reading through my notifications and thought that I saw the obligatory picky stage mentioned more than once....and since I don't believe that truely exists, I said what I believe.  This is based on my own experience.  Nothing more and certainly nothing personal.  I've been up since 4:30 this morning and dealing with a critically ill Mother since Saturday.  I honestly don't have the energy to go on a witch hunt and stalk anyone.  In case you hadn't noticed, I've not been posting a heck of a lot recently, only when I feel that I have something to add, or if I see what I believe to be erroneous information being presented as fact.

If I have seemed to be attacking you or anyone else, then my apologies, because I don't typically attack.  The diabetic "debate" was not such a case either.  You presented wildly wrong information and I corrected it, again, BASED ON MY OWN EXPERIENCE and what I have had to learn being married to a man with type 2 diabetes. I could point out that YOU seemed to have deliberately misinterrupted my posts as well in that thread.

Now, if we're going to nit pick here.....I DO have a name.  It's in my signature and most people have the courtesy to use it.

Glenda, first of all I sincerely hope that you mother recovers.

I didn't refer to you as Glenda, because many people don't want their real name used.  I don't particularily want my real name used.

Further, considering that you have responded to 2 of my post today and disagreed with both and there were quit a few more over this weekend that you responded to in disagreement as well.

I'm not saying you can't disagree with me, but like in this case, what does disagreeing with me do.  I'm just trying to give the OP a reason why his dog is not eating, a reason that my vet and I find credible.

To me it's obvious your picking on me.  Sorry if I misunderstood, but I still feel like your picking on my posts.

I didn't read your entire post the first time around.  So this is the edited part.  What kind of dog do you have?  If it is a large breed (over 50lbs at maturity) then it needs to be on a large breed puppy diet.  Also a puppy should not be away from it's mother until 8 weeks.  Taking it away earlier than that could cause health and does cause behavioral problems.  I hope not, but this may be the reason why your pups not eating. Take he/she to a vet ASAP.

If it is a small breed, can you get Royal Canin in Canada.  In a previous post I explained that Royal Canin makes a food specifically meant for small dogs.

Does anyone on here know if the RC sold in Canida is the same stuff sold in the US?  I ask because the Royal Canin sold in the UK is different and not as good.

I know that Purina Pro Plan is not a popular one on this forum, but it is a tasty food that comes in small kibble.  If you can get Beneful you should be able to find Pro Plan, but only at a pet store.  It is Purinas "premium" food and much better than Beneful. Pro Plan makes a large Breed puppy that I know comes in smaller kibble than most.

    Please don't feed Beneful.
