As long as your dog can tolerate it - then there isn't a problem with rotating or even mixing them together.

    Just wanted to add...

When rotating between different protein sources, I would stick with the ones your dog has previously consumed or would not feed a few exotic ingredients just in case you dog develops allergies later in life and you will need another source.

    I agree.

I have no idea how long it takes allergies to show up in dogs (I would assume it varies depending upon the dog) but I would try one flavor consistently for like a week and then switch. This way in case your dog has an allergic reaction to the food, you might have an easier time figuring out which food it was.

    Trilby,

I have been surprised by the variety of both quality dry and canned dog food at our local Feed and Seed. Almost all these names mentioned above were available. Just for kicks I looked at Petco and they had next to nothing of the higher quality dog food on their shelves. I would try your feed and seed store.

Twin---I personally find a couple that I like and use just them.  I am really a fan of Wysong and Evangers.  Those are the cans I use.  You can really use any protein source your dog can tolerate.  Although, I tend to stick with turkey, beef and fish and probably would even if she didn't have any GI issues.  She's got IBS so I've got to be very careful.  I'd probably add in maybe duck if she was OK or chicken too.  I don't go crazy with these buffalo, venision and rabbit varities, it's just not for me.

Now, there is a school of thought and I do believe the GreatDane Lady feels this way too, that you should not mix brands.  Personally, I don't see how this could be an issue, the dogs body knows if the food is brand A or B?? I could see if there was an issue with one then of course, you wouldn't use it.  But, if  you find two or more brands that your dog does well on, I don't see the problem.

My shopping for her is usually, 3 turkey, 4 beef cans and we rotate for the week.  Once in a while I'll add a fish in, California Natural has a nice one now, Salmon and Sweet Potato.  Or, if I really want to get her eating I'll use Solid Gold Blended Tuna. (that's for cats though)

I heard good things about CN Herring and Sweet Potato. I'm looking forward to getting my sample. [:D]

Oooh theres a california natural salmon and sweet potato canned??? That's awesome--the perfect compliment to Jetta's Go Natural salmon and oatmeal kibble. I have been looking for salmon canned food and the only one i could find was natural balance.
Its not on the website though, is it available wherever the kibble is sold or only in select stores??I wanna try it...

What about 1 can in the morning and 2 cups dry in the evening? Will it cause GI upsets to separate the two?

    Should be fine.
