tamerenee, for people like me, who have dogs with SUPER high metabolisms and big bursts of energy, the high calorie content is exactly what we want! I tried dozens of foods with strauss, and they either made him sick (diarrhea or massive constipation), or they made him itch (tons of hot spots).
I was deathly afraid that I was going to have to put him on that Blackwoods7000. That is a food that has SUCH a high calorie content, it has a WARNING label on it! It is for dogs that need lots of caolories FAST but that you can't overfeed, and for dogs with extremely high energy levels, like sled dogs. That is how underweight Strauss was. He was very low on the body weight scale.
Aside from being underweight, he was extremely healthy (No fleas, ticks, or intestinal parasites), but I was always very very concerned with his weight and coat condition. I switched him to the Fromm's after the last food we were on did a formula switch and he broke out in hot spots (My dog was not the only one, several others had the same issue). The Fromm's food put weight on my dog quickly without upsetting his stomach.
His old dull coat began falling out, and was replaced with this
gorgeous shiny top coat. His skin was no longer dry, he stopped chewing on himself, all the scratching stopped, his teeth looked better, his gums looked better, his WEIGHT was much better! Great great food, and I can't praise it enough for what it's done for my boy.
Before the Fromm's switch, at 1.5 years of age, he weighed 79 pounds. He was much too small for his height and size. Now at 27 months, after the food switch (been on it almost a year now), he weighs
91 lbs and is still lean! I'm so happy I don't have to worry about his weight anymore! I've even cut back on his food intake so he doesn't gain more weight, because I don't want him to be too heavy for agility, even though he still wouldn't be fat if he were 4 lbs heavier
