    Senior Food without Poultry

Can anyone point me towards a high quality senior food that doesn't contain poultry?

Sierra's been on Acana grain-free for a while now and has done very well on the lamb & fish varieties, but i'm having difficulty finding a similar quality senior. She definitely didn't do well on Acana senior - lots of poop, bad gas, and she didn't care for the taste. First preference is definitely for a red meat variety.

    Thanks!

The easiest way, I think, may be to use www.dogfoodanalysis.com

Put in "senior" in the search, and then you can read the ingredients lists.

Any reason not to keep her on whatever she was doing well on, even if it's not a senior food?

You know - the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking I'll do just this. I cant find any quality food that compares - without poultry - so i'm thinking i'll just keep with what i'm feeing and supplement with glucosamine.

You can feed him with Karma Organic pet food that is 95 percent organic and contain main source of protein, free-range chicken, not "poultry by-products." Their secondary source of protein is organic brown rice, and they use vitamins E and C as preservatives. You can also supplement with salmon oil gel caps and glucosamine and chondroitin.

Um, ok, that's great except you'll notice that the title clearly says "without poultry" and the last I checked, chicken is classified as poultry.

Right now, I use Acana for their kibble--the Pacifica (fish) for Sinbad and the Ranchlands for Mozey. (I also looked at Orijen--about 5-6% higher in protein) I also use Wellness canned (turkey for Sinbad and venison for Mozey). Sinbad is almost 14 (he's a Lab)--I don't use a Senior food for him, but I watch his calorie count and weight pretty carefully. Mozey is probably 4-5 years old; I watch her calories and weight, too, just to make sure everything is stable. They both get salmon oil, glucosamine/chondroitin, and milk thistle. Sinbad gets prescription meds, too.

Bugsy is senior for his size Sad (since age 5!!) anyway I use Orijen fish and adjust his food intake as necessary (usually do to rehab, sigh)

He has always done better on high protein foods and like Sierra cannot have any poultry or egg so we have limited choices. I have been spoiling him with some canned Evo venison which he loves

I don't see him ever truly transitioning to senior foods as his allergies will likely eliminate any options
