Taste of the Wild Recalled Too

I'm not sure if anyone else has posted about this, but Taste of the Wild has also now been recalled, along with a bunch of their other foods (Chicken Soup, 4Health, etc.) More information here: Recall Information

It has reached the point I am rady to dig thru trash cans and find scraps for Honey!  Honey does so great on Taste of the Wild, and so far, Texas is not listed as having recieved shipments of bad food.  But I am seriusly thinking of TRYING to find something  else.  But prblem is WHAT.  It seems if one is not having trouble another is.

Not to many years ago there would probably hvae not been a recall becaue people would not have found out about it.  But with  the web, word spreads like wildfire and the compaies HAVE to do something.  Probably 20 years ago nithing would have been done.

It was posted in the Pet Food Recall  section of Nutrition a few days ago, but I'm glad you're posting it here. Besides TOTW, it also involves some popular brands like Natural Balance and Canidae so it's important that members know about it.

Thank you for posting this. I had just bought a new bag for my dog as she was finishing up a gigantic bag I got with a groupon that she had been eating on forever. Thankfully, neither bag was part of the recall. I did wonder why there was almost no TOTW on the shelf at the local pet supply store though. I would imagine they got the message or just couldn't get enough untainted supply. They are a locally owned store and very good. Dodged a bullet, since I will be opening the new bag for her tomorrow.

I'm happy that you guys are finding it useful information!  I fed TOTW for months too, but switched immediately after this last Diamond recall.  I've got my dachshunds on California Natural's grain free food.  I'm not particularly happy about the P&G ownership of CA Natural, but my dogs are looking fantastic on it!

They had yeasty problems though and so I specifically sought out a food that didn't contain potatoes as the binder, which led me to the CA Natural.  However, I've heard that Fromm is really good as well as the Nutrisca foods, so those are some options if you're looking to still stay grain free but with a different manufacturer.

I've used it for years and been happy with it - and my dogs love it.

As I posted in the other thread, I now have a bag of Earthborn Holistic, great plain feast, to switch them over.   I am seriously thinking I have to start cooking for them myself!  Keeping up with the recalls is getting to be an hour a day job!

My other issue is my cats, also on TOTW.  Took me ages to find a high quality food that all 10 agreed on, lol.  Having to switch them is NOT going to be fun at all.

So, I went to that link and then their Press Release link that says: "To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production code on their bag. If the code has a “2” or “3” in the 9th position AND an “X” in the 10th or 11th position, the product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled products are December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013."

Just went to look at my bag - it has 2X and Best Before date is "21 March 2013."  Dammit!  I thought it smelled funny when I opened the bag.  They want to make me jump through hoops of finding my receipt for THEIR screw up!?

Annoyed in New Hampshire.  Guess it's back to Wellness CORE, maybe.... *sigh*

I had just bought a bag of TOW for treats -- I immediately threw the bag away because I put it into something airtight.  grrrrr

I wanted to caution any of you that have handled the recalled products; at least 14 people as well as some dogs have become ill. The CDC is investigating this outbreak because it's a rare strain of salmonella. So if you've handled these products and don't feel well, you should probably see  a doctor.

My neighbors just started feeding TOTW and their dog LOVES it.. Turns out their bag got recalled as well..

My cats were on the TOTW too. They're almost at the end of this last bag, and that's it for them. I spent some time in Petsmart today but it was hard to find a decent quality food that won't break the bank. I settled on trying the Petsmart Authority brand for the moment, at least until I can call the local feedstore and see about getting the California Natural's grain free cat formula. I have to special order the grain free for the dogs, so I'm sure special-ordering the cat formula won't be too big of a deal. It really does stink though, all of this recall stuff!

Two Solid Gold products ( Wolf King and Wolf Cub ) have been added to the recall list;   Current Dog Food Recalls

There appears to be no end to this.

Hmmm...am I the only one still feeding TOTW?  I hope they don't discontinue it due to this recall.  It's been one of the few foods I CAN feed my dog. And one of the few higher quality ones I can really afford.  I don't plan on tossing it and just bought a new bag.
