    thanks for posting this.  Historically, Diamond has recalled one line and then the list quickly snowballed.  It's scary and I had my cats on TOTW and dogs on 4Health.

     Yes!!  It is very scary and it can be avoided!!! We just need some new laws and for the laws that due exist to be enforced.. Hope all your pets are well!!

    Isn't Wellness made by the same company that makes Eagle Pack now? I thought it was. They have nothing to do with the Diamond Plant.

     On the Great Dane forum that I am on, they are talking about how all pet food contains salmonella,,, that this recall  is because of higher levels.

     I honestly dont know.I was just posting a link. I thought it would be helpful for people to know.

       The CDC is investigating a connection between people getting sick from salmonella after handling Diamond products;

        Multiple Diamond Dog Foods Now Linked to Salmonella Outbreak in Humans

      This particular strain of salmonella is apparently rare. This may not be a new outbreak, but an ongoing one. From the article:

     '  What’s especially troubling about this story is that the illnesses date back to October 8, 2011 – almost 7 months ago.

       This fact alone makes the health complaints reported by many of our readers under some of the Diamond product reviews on this website more   noteworthy.

     For this reason, we’re now becoming increasingly suspicious of the actual extent of Diamond’s Salmonella contamination issue. "

       The recall is for their puppy food which is made at the Diamond plant. This is the statement issued by Wellpet;

      Wellness Recall

       "Tewksbury, Mass. (May 4, 2012) – WellPet LLC announced a voluntary recall of one recipe of Wellness® dry dog food after being notified by Diamond Pet Foods regarding the presence of Salmonella in Diamond’s Gaston, South Carolina facility.

    All Wellness products are tested for Salmonella and all lots tested negative prior to shipping to customers. The company is voluntarily recalling the select products below. This voluntary recall is being done out of an abundance of caution as these products were produced at the facility that has been linked to recent recalls of Diamond brand foods due to the threat of Salmonella. "

       Most of the products are made by Eagle, like you said. Towards the end of the article ;

      "The majority of Wellness natural products for pets are produced in WellPet’s own modern state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Mishawaka, Indiana. WellPet no longer purchases any products from Diamond Pet Foods."

       I guess you're going to have to feed Gibby something else?

    The Canidae that was recalled was not Beef and Fish....and what he has been eating doesn't have any of the " key" numbers and letters in the product code number on the bag.

    You know many of the companies such as Natural Balance and I believe Wellness...said their food was tested before it went out and it did not have salmonella...they only recalled because it was made in the South Carolina Plant, everything else they make it other plants in other states.

    I do believe the only food that had salmonella was the original Diamond Lamb and Rice, Chicken Soup formulas listed and the Diamond Puppy food that was listed. All the rest of the food was not found to have salmonella but was made at that plant.  My friend who feeds Kirkland for her dog that has pancreatitis, took her food back to Cosco and was told it was not recalled, the product code numbers were fine.... but they will give her money back.  She took the money Sat and left the store, Sunday went back and bought more of the same, making sure the numbers were okay on it also.  This recall has us all nuts!  LOL!

    Re: Wellness from one of my local pet stores:

    The Wellness recall is limited to one recipe: Wellness Complete Health Super 5 Mix Large Breed Puppy, 15# and 30# bags. The recall is limited to bags with Best By dates of January 9-11, 2013.

    No other Wellness recipes are impacted by this voluntary recall.

    All Wellness dry dog and dry cat food products are tested for Salmonella and all lots tested negative prior to shipping to customers. The company is voluntarily recalling this select recipe out of an abundance of caution as these products were produced at the facility that has been linked to recent recalls of Diamond brand foods due to the threat of Salmonella.

    ETA: Thumps head--Note to self: read the whole thread. I just realized someone else had already posted this. Sorry.

    What's amazing to me is that the human food recalls haven't gotten any PR--at least not here in the New England area (At the FDA site, for the last 2 months, I found recalls for tempeh, soybean sprouts, Chinese food (prepackaged), cacao nibs, Planters peanuts, salsa, cheese, plus a lot more for undeclared ingredients.)  Crazy!

      I haven't seen anything about the Diamond recall on the news. I receive info about dog food recalls through e-mail from dog food advisor and I think Dyan receives them through e-mail from the FDA.
