Just got word- 2012 1st place Obedience at Crufts went to none other than...

Petra Ford and her black Lab, Tyler (NOC2 OTCH County Tyler Show Me The Money UDX7 OM6 MH )!!!!   Tyler and Petra placed first in the NOI in 2008 & 2009, were first runner up in 2010, AND tied for 2nd place individually at Crufts in 2010.

     They really are quite amazing!

Did you hear about the dogs in conformation who were disqualified?

Petra & Tyler are something to watch.  It's going to be interesting to see how her new guy comes along.  He must be about a year old now.

I haven't looked at the link, but if you're talking about the Bulldog and Peke, yes.  I read about it on another forum when it happened.  Honestly, I like the idea that they have to pass a vet check.  Ideally it would be done prior to breed judging, but that just wouldn't work.  Then again, in an ideal world, there would be no reason for it to start with.

Turned out that six dogs actually ended up failing I think...including the Neo Mastiff, Bulldog, Peke, English Mastiff, Basset, and Clumber.

I applaud the efforts to make a change by one of the biggest conformation shows worldwide, but I'm not sure it'll make that much difference. These dogs have already shown elsewhere - won - and will continue to be shown elsewhere, and win. It'll take more than one show to begin to bring about change in some of our genetically unhealthy dogs, but I suppose it's a start!

My understanding is, this a a new KC rule, and will be done at all shows.  The rule took effect starting with Crufts.  These dogs may not be doing as much winning in the future as they had been.

I watched a vid of the exercises portion of Petra and Tyler's obedience competition.  Wow!  :)

As for the other subject, I agree with Kim's thoughts.

Aren't they something to watch?  I love Ty's exuberance.  But definitely couldn't live with it.  LOL

LOL because, for me, this type of exuberance was exactly what I was looking for when I was competing in Hunt Tests.
